Not sure if this is the right channel for this but don't think it fits in music really. Also think the label audiophile sounds kinda pretentious but it is what it is I guess
Recently I've been getting into FLAC and all that s***, I wanna hear what you guys all use for your music.
Hit me with your setup, like headphones, speakers, DACs/DAPs, etc
Also what software do you use for listening and managing your library?
I'm a brokeboi so my setup looks like this:
Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M50x
Monitors: Mackie CR5BT (budget s*** tbh, gotta upgrade to some Yamaha HS8's asap)
DAP: I asked my girl for a FiiO M11 for my birthday next month, hopefully gonna spice up my setup with that
DAC: Bum ass idiot who doesn't have a real DAC
Tagging/Organizing: Mainly the command line utility Beets.io, which pulls tags from MusicBrainz and organizes me s*** into nice folders sorted by artist and album and renames files/folders appropriately etc. Just got Yate too so I'm trying that out for tagging as a fallback, it's got hella features god dam. I also got the app Meta just in case I want to manually tag anything in bulk, but I got that before downloading Yate so kinda wish I didn't pay for this one lmao
Listening: Swinsian on macOS, I've tried like 10 other programs and none of them suited my needs as well as this one. Love this s***. Haven't found a good app for iOS yet and Vox is garbage imo, so I'm really pullin for that FiiO M11 right now.
Downloading: Private tracker with a seedbox slot I rent for $30/month with 3TB of storage, pimp s***. Dummy happy with that purchase and now I can download all the music I can imagine while maintaining a well above necessary ratio.
CD Ripping: Some cheap ass LG external disc reader I copped off Amazon for $20, works perfectly tho. Ripping with XLD on macOS and converting with xACT.
So yeah hit me with your setups, I wanna upgrade some stuff soon and wanna see what everyone else uses and maybe try out some programs y'all use. This is the time for all you rich mfs to flex your dope cans and high end players on my broke ass
My fiio FH7s, my MacBook Pro, and tidal is all I need rn
Don’t need an amp for these and macbook DACs are really high-quality
Japanese speakers from 1998
And ATH M40x

that's what I'm sayin, music sounds crisp and clean enough for my untrained ears with the internal DAC on my MBP mid-2014 so I don't have a strong urge to shell out hundreds on a dedicated one.
also jesus f*** those earbuds look gnarly, are they worth it in your opinion? might look into getting some good wired buds sometime in the future
also fyi lots of labels don't upload true FLAC to Tidal if you care about that. I've ripped plenty from the service with a terminal script and a***yzed the spectrals in RX 7 and Spek and maybe 50% of the time they're lossy encoded into lossless and have clear signs of bad transcoding (not that many people care tbh)

what kinda Japanese speakers my guy? or do you not know the brand/model like it's some stuff you were gifted long ago or something

I really don’t think shelling out for a DAC is worth it, marginal gains at best.
And yessss I f***ing love them. Unfortunately I have TMJ problems so I can’t use over-ear headphones, but I’ve been very satisfied with these so far
And true I have a library of lossless CD rips for all of my favourites but I’ve been using Tidal for everything post-2015, I’ll have to keep that in mind

yeah I feel that
What's TMJ if you don't mind me asking?
And same man, I've been stocking up fat since joining this tracker while filling requests for other users by paying $5 here and there on Bandcamp for them and I've spent like $20-30 total but already have ~300 FLAC albums downloaded after 2ish weeks lmao, s*** is awesome. Maybe it's placebo but I feel like I'm noticing so much more detail in the music I listen to now

It’s basically your jaw joint, I sometimes have a lot of pain there and any pressure on it causes a flair up. So sadly rules out any headphones cause they put pressure on the joint I miss em
And nothing wrong with a little placebo, as long as you’re focused on the music and not the equipment there’s no problem

I know the brand, just not the specific model
Since it's been so long
They are 6'' woofer JVC speakers
MONITORS; JBL LSR 305
Audio interface: focusrite solo
Headphones: audio technica ath-m40x
Forgot to mention that I use Roon for playback. That’s a super key component to my setup
Holy s*** $30 a month for your Seedbox?? What are you using @op
Feral Hosting, love this s***. No bullshit seedbox with fantastic speed for a shared slot, the staff are chill and helpful and respond relatively quick, they're lax about going over your storage and just give you a heads up unless it gets to be too over and they tell you you gotta delete s***, and they let you install whatever you want through ssh like plex and what not (I don't think they allow root access, but I vaguely remember something about asking permission for root to install something on a case-by-case basis)
s*** you'd think I'm a shill for them lmao, I just can't believe it took me this many years to finally get a box. Tried seedbox.io first and that felt shady and janky as all hell and cost a lot more for the same specs

Damn that's s***ty man, sorry to hear that. At least nowadays they make dope buds so not all is lost
facts about the placebo and not focusing too much on equipment too, it should be about the music and the gear is just the means to an end. my gear isn't that special but it helps me enjoy my music to a much greater extent than before
wouldn't consider myself an audiophile at all but I got a sennheiser hd6xx and a ifi zendac that I use the balanced output for
I ordered this yesterday to pair with the zendac. I'll buy the balanced interconnect if needed but I think i'll just connect via rca. drop.com/buy/ifi-zen-can-signature-6xx-amp-drop-exclusive
I have a schiit magni heresy I paired with the zendac but honestly I dont like it as much as just plugging my 6xx's straight into the zendac balanced output.
I just buy albums I love on vinyl and they usually come with a digital download so I'll listen to that on flac on musicbee then I got tidal for new albums or other albums

Ah I used to use Feral until I switched to Ultraseedbox. Might switch back to Feral once I look into moving past 1tb of storage
I have a pair of Yamaha HS8s for monitors
ATH-M50 and UE Triple-Fi 10 for headphones
Use a Scarlett 3rd Gen USB-C as my AI, wanna get a UA Arrow though
Audio Interface: Steinberg UR22
Headphones: Sennhesier HD650, Audio-Technica ATH-M50x
Monitors: JBL LSR308, M-Audio Studiophile SP-5B
Earbuds: Shure SE215
Tidal, CDs imported using EAC
I’m not an audiophile, but I do still care about decent sound quality.

I was about to check out Ultraseedbox when I was deciding on one but then they were hit with a huge DDoS a month or so ago and said they'd be down for a few hours, gave no updates for a day or two, then said it might be 3-5 days or weeks even so I was like yeah imma avoid that
I also saw some mixed reviews about Feral though all over reddit but something about their site and attitude about the service they provide resonated with me so I contacted the owners with some questions and they were real helpful and cool so I went with them and love everything about it
That being said though I don't use it for plex or anything like that, it's literally just loaded up with ruTorrent and Transmission for private trackers (transmission just for one in particular that doesn't have ruTorrent on the whitelist for some dumbass reason)
i've got two Yamaha HS5s. they cost a lot for me and i don't even have them mounted yet but it's a start and they sound beautiful

I got really lucky with not being affected by their downtime. I wasn't using it much during that time and didn't know it even happened until I saw an email from them. With that being said though it still makes me skeptical about their future. Might consider going back to feral
