This is needed globally
And how exactly are they going to enforce that? Do we not remember having to be over 18 to have a fb
these are the mfers enforcing it
they have bigger issues to worry about
does that mean that they should just focus on those issues and not the smaller ones
I feel like the emphasis on banning people from doing things that are not that dangerous or bad in essence is flawed. I think u can only try to shelter kids so much before u realize u must imbue them with good values so they can handle the messier aspects of life
When the government says you have to upload your id or ss number before registering to social media...

This is a regulation subjected to Social Media companies. This cuts at a great amount of their customer base because they’ve shown to be irresponsible with the product they provide.
What policy would you rather have

A policy on content if its really that serious mainly - or algorithm control mainly
Not a regulation on an individual that brings up information of phone numbers, credit or social to something ancillary
Especially if theyre going to make it more serious to get in than other things that are way more dangerous and way more wider scale than mostly a social anxiety issue (of the people that are "worried")
Such as p*** for one
Or gore sites
Or tobacco-like synth products that are still legal to under age 18 due to technicality that are some way even worse
Etc.
And on top of that, creating probably the biggest vulnerability of info hacking/attacks due to how connected these platforms are in nature than any ither service that forces for this infor- if a check in system is wanted/placed
And in turn- if introducing a forced check in system- it just give the said will be company even more data to sell n scrape from the user- on an issue that is nowhere as pressing as a lot of others
Imagine twitter forcing you to have your id or social lmao you are going to bombarded forever (i dont even care about the ethics its the annoyance that data selling does is my pown personal issue)
And if its not a check in system- then youre just creating a "this you ye?" System that already exist on things like social and p*** sites etc.
Thus youre doing nothing, again, to your so called pressing issue

be honest, did you read the article lol
be honest, did you read the article lol
“Under the proposed changes, social media companies will bear the onus of enforcing the age limit rather than parents and there would be no penalties for users.
As for what social media platforms would be included in the legislation, Ms Rowland said platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and YouTube would likely "fall within that definition".
The government said the definition of what would constitute an age-restricted social media platform would be adapted from the existing definition in the Online Safety Act, but it would have flexibility and could be narrowed through regulations.”

That wasn't government mandated, and there's states requiring age ID for certain websites in the US already

We really just need education reform on a massive scale
How in the emu f*** are they going to enforce that
