    But hypothetically

If i was forced to make some kind of law idea with a gun to my head

I would suggest a timeout function thats tied to account put in age, like how YouTube blocks commenting from kids accounts under like 13

Or if youre scared of age liars being in mass of accounts age

Then make a cool down tied to them app side (which will have to involve app stores) that can be set by the parent

3 hours of the day then its locked, or whatever time the parent puts in- account side

This already exist within some apps that build it, and it exists within ipad n game consoles - which its up to the parent to inforce or not with an account system or the device local side of a password

But even beyond all of this:

I am actually inclined to say a high schooler in todays age needs a social media to function socially and even educationally these days which it acts as basically mass email n event contact system on top of social media general use - from school sports to class checking to interacting to information access - its like how a phone became a novelty/niche and then a must have to literally live and participate on the modern world in every aspect, and then the email same thing (1st world speaking).

    16 is ridiculous to me.

Under 13 or 14 would be the line imo.

And again if you do care that much, then have social media claimed websites have a restriction on either their content, their algorithm and/or screentime.

"Oh but companies rights" - its just as restrictive and controlling to force your highest point of societal data to be used for social media.

Youre either controlling the company or controlling the person (yes i know a check in- is technically a control on the company as well but to me it has more positives for the site/company than it does the person if we're talking about a site in mass that actually matters is attracting these "endangered" teens n kids), either way.

Anyways i done enough thinking on this nonsense that is mostly used to satisfying and quells a minorities social anxiety about growing scoial norms

The average person aint gonna think this much or the scale of effect it will hurt - just like the old geezers that will pat them on the back because they dont even use it anyways so it doesnt bother them

just like the minority diots that want a literal full scale p*** ban in totality without even giving an iota of thought to economy and job force massive hurt it will do to even the average person who benefits off it without knowing, never mind the ethics of individual responsibility of self control, self indulgent and personal business

A lot of yapping to defend an already researched and documented product that vastly brings more negative than positive to children.

Social media isn't the only thing on the internet.

You can still talk, chat, and send images through sms. You can email, browse sites, and connect to others without social media.

No kid should be on social media posting s***

That wasn't government mandated, and there's states requiring age ID for certain websites in the US already

Good point although we don’t need to be turning in identification of minors to social media sounds like an absolutely horrible idea

I feel like the emphasis on banning people from doing things that are not that dangerous or bad in essence is flawed. I think u can only try to shelter kids so much before u realize u must imbue them with good values so they can handle the messier aspects of life

There's leaked internal memos from TikTok that I think Kentucky public radio had released? At some point TikTok executives had raised concerns that kids might get to the point of losing basic functionalities such as eating or drinking or talking to others, “and things like that”.

Its not about “sheltering” them. Its legitimatly bad for our brain.

Should be done in America tbh

if u lose basic life function because ur addicted to tik tok thats something beyond social media, thats just bad parenting mixed with a basal lack of intellect or competency that people should gain from grade school

lmao, what i dont understand is we want kids as far away from any sexual content, right, but most kids is losing their virginity as teens, and eventually s***is a good thing right, so at what point do we switch from being puritanical to acknowledging that s***is healthy and normal?

a lot of ppl avoid s***because they see it as a sin or some frivolous dangerous activity, then when theyre adults they lack experience or knowledge or the capacity to get laid

It’s literally mind control and designed to be addictive. The content on their is egregiously mind numbing trash. It shouldn't exist in the first place. Lazy parenting exists and not every parent lets their kids watch that stuff but it really is a problem and at some point some sort of intervention will end up having to happen for it to stop. There is no net negative to restrictions on social media. F*** age and take that out of the equation. There should just be restrictions plain and simple

    edition.cnn.com/2024/11/28/australia/australia-passes-social-media-law-intl-hnk/index.html

    Brisbane, Australia
    CNN

Australia’s parliament has passed a world-first law banning social media for children under 16, putting tech companies on notice to tighten security before a cut-off date that’s yet to be set.

The Senate approved the social media ban late on Thursday, the last sitting day of the year, following months of intense public debate and a rushed parliamentary process that saw the bill introduced, debated and passed within a week.

Under the new law, tech companies must take “reasonable steps” to prevent under-age users from accessing social media services or face fines of nearly 50 million Australian dollars ($32 million).

A policy on content if its really that serious mainly - or algorithm control mainly

Not a regulation on an individual that brings up information of phone numbers, credit or social to something ancillary

Especially if theyre going to make it more serious to get in than other things that are way more dangerous and way more wider scale than mostly a social anxiety issue (of the people that are "worried")

    Such as p*** for one

    Or gore sites

Or tobacco-like synth products that are still legal to under age 18 due to technicality that are some way even worse

    Etc.

And on top of that, creating probably the biggest vulnerability of info hacking/attacks due to how connected these platforms are in nature than any ither service that forces for this infor- if a check in system is wanted/placed

@Water_Giver been on an MVP streak ngl
