no one wants to fix the actual problem, they just want to make their insecurities and anxiety feel better regardless of the wider impact
Whats the actual problem
A lot of yapping to defend an already researched and documented product that vastly brings more negative than positive to children.
Social media isn't the only thing on the internet.
You can still talk, chat, and send images through sms. You can email, browse sites, and connect to others without social media.
No kid should be on social media posting s***
blud wants to talk about studies but then passes up the studies of pushing children to "kids only" places that are filled with more predators and crime than the regular all inclusive places - because they dont have anyone to check em besides the places own mods that have to be adults and half of them end up to be weirdoes too that become a breeding ground for even more weirdoes
why stop there? take the phone and internet away they can talk to each other from post mail ๐๐
and they can be ignorant to how most of the adult world contact each other until they turn 18 and have to learn right away or fail ๐
Whats the actual problem
algorithm and screentime
with a side of allowed site content
tbh i dont think kids should be allowed on the internet but i dont think this is the solution either

I generally disagree with overly aggressive attempts to stifle things that cannot be stifled. Its like banning weed, people still smoke weed, and attempts to stop people from smoking weed only make the issue worse

Its dumb. Instead of divising thorough and intelligent solutions, we just ban s***, which cannot even reliably be enforced
Its like the p*** bans. Instead of using mainstream platforms people go to xnxx and get addicted to even weirder p*** categories. Its dumb and regressive
Tldr: people should try to evolve and be intelligent instead of relying on policy makers to live life for u

you can easily put a law that controls and forces companies to tighten algorithms - which is modern social media main issue above all else
the algorithms are literally built to keep your screentime as high as possible since the mid 2010s
you can implement that the algorithm cant affect ages under 16/18 - their feed has to be what they naturally find, or its only other kids content thru it, or after a set amount of time the algorithmn tones down lets say after 3 hour and either stops, or starts looping the same content again to kill your screentime until the next day (lets say the refresh is 12 midnight) then it starts again and the algorithmn is only active to a person for 3 hours then goes again on shut down or repeat content rinse n repeat
and i already expounded on if you want to attack screentime directly last page earlier this month
and of course the most standard simple idea is to make labeled social media sites have stricter content - such as no violence or sexual content at all
these are all doable before and depending site-to-site they already have some of these things (which i also gave examples last page) - but it is even more doable and actually easy with AI tech
but this would require actual thought and work

See these are intelligent ideas that yes require actual thought and work to implement but would be more effective than a ban that cannot be properly enforced

people are too dumb and lazy to evolve and become intelligent
and policy makers cater to that (obviously)
so we are screwed
