One interesting thing to note: Janet arguably had a lot more chart success at her peak than Prince did
But look at their Spotify numbers as of today:
Prince : 11'407'543 monthly listeners
Janet Jackson : 5'658'937 monthly listeners
True.

not to be a d*** here but Prince's monthly listeners are def a result of him passing away and then those w/ the rights to his estate re-releasing his discography a billion times

JT's Nipplegate is one of the factors here, unfortunately.
Idk, man.
MJ has a plethora of skips in his discography.
Just trying to see something, can you name your top 5 Prince tracks?
That’s a very particular angle to imply there are many MJs… when you know there are none
Maybe none that had someone as talented as Quincy pulling the strings, but I'd put JT at a close 2nd.
We should stick to comparing to two albums in OP, cause comparing them as whole artists there's no competition.
I'm proud to say that this thread stuck to the topic at hand for almost 4 whole pages before devolving into a full on MJ vs Prince thread

JT? And yea, I only made it the argument cause I don’t like either project that much.

No love for either of these records?

That's wild. Two classics
Artistically, MJ fell off after he'd put out 'Thriller.'
quincy jones man, the resume cannot be denied
the one with liberian girl

Crine you mad as s***
Insecure as f*** Prince stans it's a tale as old as time
You won't ever see MJ fans fighting for comparisons lol
Just enjoy both and call it a day

Ehhh.
I'll admit I enjoy "Off the Wall" very much so, as well as his Jam & Lewis collaborations. :)
bad is one of my favorite MJ albums but SOTT absolutely clears it. its one of those they call 'album of the life'
that said we should put this mj vs prince thing to bed. the only reason we compare them is because of their rivalry. when you get down to it they made very different music and very differently from one another. its just conversation fodder
