Vehemently disagree, this film is about the best merger of overt horror and humor I can think of in recent memory and feels very inline with his previous films, just heightened given the nature of the film.

It’s exactly what he said it would be. What if a guy who normally would just be playing Resident Evil as a video game was instead forced to live Resident Evil, recreating the experience of playing a Resident Evil game.

The film is essentially an earnest deconstruction of a Resident Evil playthrough being played by the most uncoordinated person you’ve ever seen.

I can appreciate the intent. It's too bad that it was written for the top posts on Reddit

I understand comedy is subjective, horror is subjective and thus the intermingling of the two is going to be ESPECIALLY subjective, but I knew going in that this was going to be Zach Cregger playing in the RE toy box and making a stripped down, no frills romp and that’s exactly what we got.

It’s as literal of a video game adaptation as you can get outside of it being a straight up isekai.

I also disagree with the Joss Whedon assessment given that Whedon’s humor often reeks of a compulsion to be clever in an almost meta contextual, genre deconstructive way where characters will kind of defy their own “parameters” as a character, whereabouts with this film I feel the movie’s humor is more organic to the overall film experience.

    Its slapstick.

  • RASIE

Someone gotta kill Cregger for this bs fam

I actually haven't seen any of his movies but this having more jokes than Shaun of the Dead is hilarious

  • Idk why people were laughing at the part were he was eating cereal, people are just f***ing stupid

walking in the snow by himself

"What am i doing out here running from crazy monster people, weird dogs..." 🤪

    walking in tunnel by himself

"No way I just did that, I did not just shoot a little girl's head off" 🤪

after shooting towards his car and seeing bullet holes in his hood while holding a gun

"What? Who the heck shot my car?" 🤪

after throwing the ladder at the dog then realizing he needs it to get back down

    "Omg the ladder! (facepalm)" 🤪

If they added in the Seinfeld music and a laughtrack every 20 seconds it would fit right in. Exactly what I was expecting from a Resident Evil movie. It is JUST like the games.

man idk.. this s*** sounds funny haha maybe in a meta self aware kinda way but i may have to check this out

"Too many jokes" shouldn't even apply to this film tbh. That gives the me impression that there are actual moments without jokes. The entire first 45 mins was literally nothing but jokes. Truly awful. Not a single redeeming quality.

This guy watched the wrong movie

Do you think I didnt know going in that this was Zach Cregger playing in the RE box? Even for him specifically I think there are some mistakes I wasn't expecting here. I don't ever think its whedon level. But I do think some of it is not good.

slept on this and yeah it was pretty good, first like 75% was pretty great but the shlock ending felt kinda weak and not in the homage to the games/2000s movies sort of way it was intende. leaned a lil too much into the humor and broke the balance especially with him talking to himself during downtime, don't think it would've felt as constant if there was an extra 20-30 mins of heavier/more survival horror s\*\*\* which i feel like this movie could've easily spared. the scene with the little girl in the bathroom had me in tears though, hilarious sequence. entire driving/barn section was probably my fav part of the whole movie

it goes from jokes to him blowing a child's brains out. To seeing infected babies to a fat man with rats. To an Umbrella corporation lady leaving the car to save a woman while saying absolutely nothing to communicate for one random lady . It just jumps around so much with a lot of dumb logic. the Umbrella lady is like a pro player but at same time I feel movie would have been helped if he spent more time with those characters rather than disposing of them so quickly so he did have people to bounce off of rather than random quips to himself
