It shows up multiple times throughout the movie and is locked solely on Bryan, constantly impeding him and forcing him to change his plans/alter his route.
there is a pursuer enemy . But enemy encounters overall can kind of get you
yeah but the thing is, is that the the human katamari doesn’t get scarier the bigger it gets. i’m talking about a fully formed thing that appears the protagonist struggles with it, and then it comes to some conclusion through growth in his narrative arc. not a gross ball that you see from a distance 90% of the time

not really he has to flee once to the sewers, but aside from that it always shows up on the periphery while he’s in conflict with something else already and doesn’t have a ton of direct interaction with it otherwise. also i wish they were more thematically connected it’s why nemesis is more memorable than lisa trevor, because nemesis and jill have a direct conflict/relationship with each other while lisa is a monster that’s just there and is really sad
Friend asked if I wanna go in a hour
it's time
definitely worth the watch my gripes aside

I agree on this . It not really talking . Making distinct noises or really delivering something truly scary . I never felt “ this is going to injure him” in any way . Yes we knew he would have plot armor for sure and it’s subverted by early bite but set pieces didn’t blow me away while getting the theme . That he was underpaid slowly losing his soul at a nefarious company

yeah for me it doesn’t sufficiently fill the role. especially since bryan doesn’t have any real relationship with it.

They are thematically connected, the monster represents both Bryan’s growing responsibility as a potential father and the expansion of the family, constantly dogging him throughout the movie. He also, on a more literal level, “killed” the woman at the center of it.

Honestly, the more time that goes by the dumber your criticisms sound.
Why the f*** does the monster need to talk? Mr. X doesn’t talk, and Bryan has a much more direct connection to his monster than Leon did to Mr. X.

that’s a good shout but i feel like they jettison its importance quickly and it doesn’t get the moments it needs to be a satisfying conclusion. the climax of the movie is that he shoots a mop and a bunch of zombies fall on it, and he yells video games. i understand the implication of the arc but i think it could’ve been more explicit, or the monster could’ve had some real importance

Why? That’s not the point of the f***ing movie, it’s about Bryan trying to reach his destination as quickly as possible. There is no time for that s*** because why would Bryan even care? It’s not about that, the movie isn’t about that.
The irony of a movie whose primary intention is to be a roller coaster ride making y’all sound like this because you don’t “get it” is hi-hilarity honestly.
Trying to stack the movie with unnecessary baggage that would accomplish nothing besides slowing the pace. This movie is not trying to be an “Obssession” style flick, it’s not trying to be “elevated horror”, it’s just a really lean, mean horror comedy film, with some thematic elements if you wanna dig into it, but for the most part, it’s primary concern is to be a good time, which ironically makes it stand out a horror film even more in this moment in time.

these are cogent critiques of a narrative arc in a film.
why resort to name calling if you simply disagree? just dni

It’s not though, what do those actually add beyond unnecessary exposition? How do they tie into the central conceits and intentions of the movie?
The film operates on both a literal and thematic level, and in some interpretative cases, the ending of the movie can be read in multiple ways when a***yzing the film on a thematic front as opposed to a literal one.
But first and foremost, the thing you have to keep in mind the entire time when it comes to watching this movie, is that it’s entirely subjective. Everything is from Bryan’s POV, down to the film essentially occurring in real-time.
His priorities is to get to his destination so he can hopefully get home to his girlfriend and sort through his personal issues, he is not a hero in any way, shape or form, and is not intended to be. He’s just some guy.

We get it that you are a genius and I’m beneath you even when I’m defending the movie

It’s not even worth trying . In his mind we didn’t also pay money to see this movie and take time out of our day to see it . When people dislike a movie I like why would I if I’m secure in my opinion invalidate theirs ?
People hate digger and I get not liking it or hope but I like them

Brother this movie is filled with with exposition
I’ve discussed the thematic relevance of the ending and said for me the ending redeemed it for me even if execution was messy

I mean it’s pretty clear from the mop . Maternity ward and all elements . He ends the movie alone while pretending he was righteous delivering an organ for a child. Once he figured out it was a cure his focus was self preservation same as his desire to abort. He says you will be a good mom. He never shows he truly wants to be a dad and now his child will live in a dystopia due to Him refusing to be honest
