In my ongoing study of stories and character arcs in films through some of the widely regarded “masters” of connecting with people (ie Cameron, Spielberg etc), I have made something of a personal breakthrough: all art strives to be poetic. This is most apparent in narrative mediums like film and novels

And I don’t mean poetic in some vague sense; I literally mean poetic devices as they are taught in poetry and literature. BVS, funny enough, became a destination point for further examination of this premise. I mean…ofc it did, the world of Brave + in depth film a***ysis does not exist without BVS in there rearing its head sometimes

BVS is so divided in its reverence amongst the discourse about it because on one hand, its intent to strive towards being poetic is dense, ambitious and steeped in prestigious mythological oeuvre. This is undeniably admirable, especially in a superhero film landscape of easily digestible family entertainment.

Those who identify with such principles and sensibilities (and how that manifests aesthetically in regards to tone, cinematography, source material) will favor what BVS seeks to be…and thus, belong in the camp of seeing BVS as successfully reaching the point of poetic richness we subconsciously wish all art to be at

The opposite camp is not swayed by the intent of Snyder, Goyer and Terrio on display because they don’t share the same liking for such sensibilities, as they have a different “taste pathology”. To them, BVS is nothing more than a colossal failure to reach the point of poetic richness we subconsciously wish all art to be. And so then, if we break the narrative and themes and characters of BVS down the question becomes

i do get it . I just think it’s execution is more fan service than well done in bvs or jl to want a whole movie out of it . Unearned death and unearned turn to evil because we haven’t truly seen him good

I don’t like BVS but there is a lot of interesting nuggets to be found within and surrounding it. I also can see what Snyder was going for and respect that in a few places

bro superman and batman and marvel is the most played out stories ever and all of their profits were stolen from their creators and monopolized by greedy businessmen and turned into the recycled mcdonalds chicken nugget bullshit that we get today. they never gonna do an original superman or batman movie ever its all fan service recycled bullshit n we never should have supported any of this capeshit anyways because the values of the characters arent being reflected by the people who own the IP we giving money to lex luthor when we buy tickets to a superhero movie

“ we” y’all talking about going to snydercon at the fan service jerk off for charity . I pirate these movies . I had a Snyder die hard friend so saw man of steel then eventually bvs only theater watch of trilogy . I do appreciate he took more risk on bvs even if to me rushed
