The sword combat is even dumber than Skyrim which doesnt have good melee (although passable) gameplay already either.
The UI is a mess n cumbersome.
The characters are robots.
Partner n escort AI is so f***ing bad even for the time.
A lot of the dungeons dont have anything worthwhile. Thus being wastes of time.
Armor fashion is ass.
To level up you have to find a place to literally sleep.
You cant "Skyrim up mountains" in Oblivion because the s*** stops you from jumping literally. Its built in to stop you. Even if its a slight incline. Which makes traveling very annoying n way longer. A horse makes it a bit easier, but not much. And theres no fast travel that i can see.
The open world is mostly empty n mindless, just a backdrop for getting to point a & b, besides the occasional landmark or dungeon. The stone activations are dumb, & most of the time youre slowly walking (no sprint at least that i can see) for MINUTES at a time with only the occasional wolf and MAYBE bandit encounter.
Im a Battlemage. Destruction/Conjure magic n Sword/Blunt weapons.
The only cool things is the magic spells & how cities are set up.

This is a very meh game from what I remember
I heard its good but not like a masterpiece.
Ive been wanting to play a more traditional action slasher for a min. I got it and newly released Gun Grave game downloaded from Gamepass hoping one of them are decent enough to scratch that Ninja Gaiden/DMC/OG GOW itch.
Which reminds me, i gotta buy Bayonetta 3 at some point still.

I dont have a problem playing older games, i have a physical game collection since SNES to PS4/Switch/X1 (im only missing sega genesis, sega saturn & i havent bought into next gen yet cuz the library is etiher ass or still cross gen so far so no point at the moment) n i play random games i have no connection with prior on emulators that i enjoy, but the 360/ps3/wii era are by far the worst/roughest to go back to for me for singleplayer games.
Their mostly ugly colorless graphics & childish idea of "grown up"ness of most of that era's games is so bad plus some of the tropes of the era. Outside of like 10 to 12 ish games I could care less about that era today. My least fav gen overall so far. Most of the games of that era are either cartoonishly edgy, confused about what it wants to be or overly serious to parody that most cant pull off.
Goat multiplayer era meh singleplayer era.

The dungeons being wastes of time, the robotic bland npcs, mindless open world, the messy inventory/menus & the caveman swordplay of the game are the things that piss me tf the most in Oblivion.
I dropped it completely after 12ish hours. Still mad asl.

itās a new art form and a unique one in that itās only been getting more refined as time goes on, the only older games that are worth visiting are ones that were original
oblivion wasnāt praised as a groundbreaking rpg in its time, it built off the success of morrowind and modernized the formula, same with skyrim when that came out
what made oblivion so popular was that for the first time console players could play a robust rpg on a console instead of needing a pc
