    you're french right?
    it's been a while since i've seen la haine, but i assume there's "banlieue french" in a lot of the dialogue?

    also L'armée des ombres

    Jean Luc Godard is my favorite. Anna Karina was so beautiful when she was young.

    my top 5 Godard movies:

    1. Pierrot le fou (1965)
    2. Le Mepris (1963)

    3. A bout de souffle (1960)
    4. Bande a part (1964)
    5. Vivre sa vie (1962)

    also Luis Bunuel's Belle de Jour (1967) is a must see.

    L'amant / The lover (1992) underrated movie.

    really trying to learn French and I wonder what would be some good movies that are also "must-sees"

    Can’t recommend this two part movie enough as I unfortunately never see them mentioned.

    This real story stars Vincent Cassel (the lead in La Haine) as Jacques Mesrine: France’s most notorious famous gangster oat, often namedropped and referenced in french rap songs.

    He had a long run, was seen as a Robin Hood figure by the people but then did some dirty things like torturing a journalist because he didn’t like what he said and left him for dead.

    Jacques Mesrine never stopped and died on the run at 42 I believe, the less you know about how that went down the best it is, the way they set this up in the movie is so f***ing good.

    First part is about his early life and how it all came to be into the criminal life, the second part is far more into the meat of the legend and big s*** he pulled off.

    They’re two great french movies about a real french story with a great french actor that went ham in this, got the weight and s*** to look like the dude.

    @Bad_Finger_Boogie @Wahi @MacFoley @Soupvillain @Beach_kneega @proper @Danny @Ground @LuJo

    Didn’t realize tagging system only notifies 5 ppl

    @proper @Danny @ChiefSosa @MrYeezy @StrictlySyrup

    Movie also won some Cesar awards including best actor as the poster shows, fyi Cesars is France’s equivalent of the Oscars.

    Watchlist!

    This is Cassel’s Oscar performance for sure, he knew he had pressure, you gotta understand Mesrine is a figure of France pop culture, it’s not just some cheap based crime thriller

    You’re gonna love it, It’s a must watch that more Americans or ppl outside France should hear about! go in knowing as little as possible and know all of it is real you’re gonna be mindblown!

    There’s also Cecile de France in it (from Alexandre Aja’s slasher High Tension) and Gerard Depardieu has a role too
