Since you're preppy you'll prob like Hamptons, Fire Island (primarily gay destination though), Asbury Park, Upstate NY etc,
Move to LIC, much cleaner and get more bang for your buck. Not much night life though, but you can take the G to brooklyn and get your fix

If youre not from Oakland then dont move to Oakland, 80 percent of it is one of the worst poverty places n crime, n the other 20 is expensive af rich gated county.
Surrounding areas are better to move too while still being able to integrate into the communitg activities. You can also move right outside the bayarea.
Vallejo, Oakland, San Lorenzo, San Francisco & Hayward all have huge art scenes and are all pretty close to each other.
But yeah Bayrea is expensive af & has its own issues like anywhere else. Nowhere is perfect.
LA n Bayarea tho for art n tech people are the best places.

Serious question still though — I always wish my friends would think twice before deciding to move somewhere solely based off stuff like how “preppy” it is

No worries, and yeah I agree preppy is a bad term but I dont think educated or refined fits the bill. Personally I like an intense place thats not discriminatory Think NYC but less dirty and closed in. Lots of activities. Lots of life during the day and at night but with a decent suburb for later in life

Its a fact at least when i was there you shouldnt move to Oakland if youre not from there or dont know anybody. Hes not only out of town but out of state hes fish out of water.

Its better these days compared to the 2000s n 90s but still has issues n way overpriced, my dads from the crest of vallejo n i still have an aunt in east oakland, i soent most my years in south Hayward tho with some spots in the others i mentioned
Makes no sense to make a rando move there without any connects, family or knowledge lol at least to me
Hinestly best imo currently is to live directly outside so its not as exepensive although still pretty hugh if art is your thing, that way you can still go city to city doing s*** without being planted but op is never gonna find that "perfect" place tho

Seattle is cool, south seattle has a high black population. There's a very healthy art scene here, but still small (compared to something like NY or LA,), so everyone knows everyone. Not really preppy
