You'd think the label would be all over pushing a song like this as a single after stairway to heaven

There’s a song from next year I found that I’m excited to post that’s kinda like the ideal version of this kind of thing. It’s like the best song in this era Hoople or Bowie never did.

  • Oct 26, 2024

I've heard the name Paul Buckmaster before but I'm ngl I didn't realize till last night he was the one that did the string arrangements for Bowie's Space Oddity, Bee Gees Odessa, Stones Sway and Moonlight Mile, Eltons Your Song and Tiny Dancer, Cohen's Songs Of Love and Hate, Nillson Schmillson, Carly Simons Your So Vain etc elite

Ngl I'm not the biggest Hoople fan, they did too much old school rock and roll boogie woogie but with none of the panache of Bowie, Roxy, Bolan or Stones.

This cover they did in '71 however is an insanely rousing mastapiece

yeah none of the following Santana vocalists were as good after Gregg Rolie left are as good. I think the album is still really good though just not on the level of the first 4 classic run

you get on the Carlos Santana + John McLaughlin collab album for 1973 though? and on that note the Mahavishnu Orchestra album from this year is a stone cold jazz fusion classic

We already lived through 2008 and it wasn't nearly as jam packed with interesting music as 1973

No I get that it just seemed like you were putting Hoople on a pedestal with Bowie and above Roxy etc and I don't think they're that elite. The three highlights of this album (The third being that long ass song on side 2) definitely make it their strongest one yet though.

That Steeleye Span album is the best uk folk rock album I've ever heard tbh

Better than any Fairport album after they transition from light psych to pure folk @RVI
