actually Rock Bottom one of the best recs I ever got as well @RASIE already knew Soft Machine but might have taken forever to get to RB

I remember you posted a YouTube link of Sea Song at me and I got halfway through before I turned it off because I knew I needed to cop the physical and take my first listen much more seriously lol.

Genesis dropped a mystic masterpiece that took me years to sink in,went from a 6 to almost a 10/10. Gabriel's best performance with them and the compositions work in a much different way to anything they did before. Even though its still insanely proggy it partially points the way toward both further Genesis and Peter solo while still being totally unique. also one of the most esoteric concepts, still have no idea what its about

even with Steve Hackett being significantly less prominent now than previous albums, every other band member is at their top level

Man i love Gabriel's solo stuff but never seriously dove into Genesis tbh. Might have to start checking them out cause this is dope

yeah ive had that album for a couple years its pretty good.

I think my favourite is the last bit of Pleasure Man where it sounds alot like Franz Ferdinand

Music Is Lethal and the Love Me Tender cover are the other big highlights for me.

Lennon pushed Nilsson so hard that in the process he permanently damaged his vocals and never sounded the same again. You can hear all that pain and passion in this recording.

im kinda with you can only actively listen to so many 20 minute songs per week. totally understand why punk happened.

as a massive Yes hater even I gotta admit they nailed this tho. must've taken tremendous restraint for them to not f***ing ruin it with a bunch of fancy bullshit.

6 years later and I still havent heard another reggae album thats so rootsy it achieves transcendence for the entire runtime @beflygelt one of the best recs ive ever got tbh. its like the astral weeks of reggae.

happy to hear this resonated so much need to revisit

while not as good as Tubular Bells this is still a great album full of Oldfield-like melodies and amazing instrumental parts. As a whole probably a bit more ethereal. I love it.

While this is a glam rock masterpiece and a great closer for an excellent last record…

...it’s this track that’s the real final mission statement for a still underappreciated band.

It would be cool if someone made a playlist of all the songs posted in here, so anyone could throw it on to keep up with the recommendations.

I already have too much dip on my chip trying to make a somewhat comprehensive top 200 playlist for each year but if you make one ill post in the OP

yeah its my favorite from them

some gong heads dont agree though. if you can believe it they actually tuned down the whimsy a bit. and turned the spaciness up more
