US actually thought a Islamic Fundamentalist country would take their culture
One word: Resources
I dont care what your opinion of western intervention is, this dismissive response to the rights of women is so vacuous and cynical I wont regale it with a rebuttal
Give me 1 reason why we should try and save those women rather than helping women in this country

bruh a walking thesaurus
Imagine how good life would be for women in this country if we took the money that we put in for these forever wars and gave it to women’s foundations!
I’m still waiting for 1 good reason why we should care about women in another country while we’re so f***ed up

Of course a country is not going to take American culture overnight. No one believed that. A government was established however. It's not about making it a mini America it's about shielding the existent afghan government from taliban resurgence. Afghanistan will be a hyper conservative country for a long time but conservative official government is still far less oppressive and incompetent than the Taliban

it's too late to do anything about afghanistan now, I'm not arguing for a return.
But I personally think all women deserve to be helped

No, they will never take US culture, the Afghan government Is remarkably incompetent, corrupt and is ridiculously weak.
While it seems heroic from the outside, and there indeed really isn't any justifying possible for the injustice in the world, it is simply not an act of goodwill nor selfless on American behalf to intervene everywhere.

Why don’t we worry about ourselves before that?

If you think life for a woman in america is as restricted as life for a woman in Taliban controlled afghanistan then I absolutely beg you reconsider

Why do we care?
Why do we care?
America didn't care
I need to spell out that I'm not an advocate for going back. We lost the war
I'm saying if we wanted it to work, we shouldnt have half assed
You all have good intentions but I'm talking hypothetical
Fact of the matter is we have failed in afghanistan and I accept this reality

I'm not saying it was I'm saying if we wanted it to go better we should have done a better job from the start. Hypothetically. I dont think we should up the ante at all, we lost

Why do you think this is America's responsibility to liberate specifically women of any foreign country? Common sense would implore you to join a humanitarian group or something. You're crazy to think military forces are what's gonna help these women anyway lmao. Almost sounds like a troll argument when you put it into the context of this discussion

I expressed pity for the women who will suffer when the Taliban retake control
I didnt say we should invade places for that. Sorry if you read me wrong.
The government of afghanistan at present is better for women than the Taliban were and it is intervention that helped this government form initially. That's all

The thing is, how cruel this may sound, is it America's place to always intervene? And if you think it is, why is it only intervening in these countries and not some countries in Africa or China with the Uyghur situation? Besides, who knows what would have happened without intervention, just looking at the outcome may be a bit shallow, and is kind of saying that the end justifies the means.

This is a value judgement and a very deep question
I was talking hypothetically what could have been done to make the war a success. This is a falsifiable claim. Value judgements are not so it's difficult
For what's it worth you're probably right

All things besides, I think it's important to note that I appreciate the fact we can have an open discussion on this topic in a formal manner.
Glad we found some kind of middle road.

Yeah of course
I know it's a highly emotive issue but people here have got me all wrong, my opinion is based on my interpretation of what I've seen. I'm not a beneficiary of any war in afghanistan at all. I just see what I have and reaches my conclusion. There have been many interventions which went to s***, and I strongly believe the invasion of iraq was a disaster

“Spreading democracy and equal rights across the globe” has been the empires justification since Jefferson but it wasn’t until WWII where they realized it was possible. You sound like a neocon.

The justification for afghanistan already existed, it was to locate Osama bin laden who was being sheltered by the Taliban. The war was not justified by democeacy because the american public already wanted bin laden brought to justice
It's the failure to prioritise nation building that prevented a victory.
