My more detailed point is, if we had never gone into Afghanistan at all, the final outcome would have been no different to what we are about to enter now, with Taliban controlling it.

The first few years of the war in afghanistan had the taliban in such deep disarray victory wasnt even unlikely. NATO dropped the ball cause they didnt care, and the final outcome is arguably a bit worse than never having gone to begin with.
