I don’t think it will work to change the hearts and minds of the people to actually be more accepting of gays, but something needs to be done to combat the fierce homophobia in the country. There are instances of gay people being dragged out their houses and beaten to death.

Gay rights in africa are horrible but this isnt the way. African homophobia in large part stems from the foreign religions like islam and Christianity that were spread on us
Africans and nigerians have the potentiality to be tolerant (the country is 48% Christian and in those parts you see slightly more western outlook) but the way you get there like i alluded before is by people adopting western cultural values WILLINGLY
The reason the Christian part of nigeria is slightly more tolerant and developed (i use slightly loosely cus honestly its more like living in 80s alabama if yr gay sure you wont get killed but...) is because people there are more economically intergrated to canada, uk, usa etc there is a long tradition of that bcus that’s where the british and portuguese set up shop and why that part of the country is christian in the first place
