I think some are thriving. It all depends on if you let s*** get to you. Especially out of the city, people are gonna touch you and s***. People are gonna want to take pictures with you. The language barrier can be hard. I would recommend learning some Japanese if you're gonna be there a while or travel outside of Tokyo.
