Then releasing a live version of all new songs first makes me think they won’t release a studio version

They may not, but the Bush Hall recordings are honestly decent enough that they're about as good as studio recordings.

Also, the songs do say (Live from Bush Hall) after them I think, so we may get a studio version of at least some later.

Because it's been like 6 months since they wrote it lol. There will be another studio LP later and they may use some of these songs

But presenting these songs for the first time in this format doesn't quite work. I seriously don't understand why this is getting so much praise

What format? A live recording? It absolutely does work. These songs were written as a transitory phase between albums and were written to be performed as a live set for tours they wanted to do before LP3.

If you don't like the songs, you don't like them, and that's fine, but this works as a live album pretty spectacularly and their motivation makes sense.

Half of Ants from Up There was recorded live too with very little studio meddling.

My problem is exactly that. The songs aren't bad, but for a live recording, they're too constrained. They didn't even gained a form, are just being presented live, and the quality of the recording don't do them justice.
