i get what you’re saying. I guess if we wanna take it deeper, I didn’t want/or expected jokes about how our parents be cause I can relate. Telling our parents we’re depressed, you get that “you got a roof over your head, food on the table” talks and I guess just thinking about it Played a part triggering my reactions. I got defensive to sharing this stuff with outsiders instead of having a healthy discussion within our own like adults. Sitting back and a***yzing this all made me realize it. I mean toughness is a good thing but their circumstances were so muc different its unfair to hold us to thay standard

I have a black mom and her way of thinking about certain things just really irks me...
In September i tore my ACL during a game, when i was in the hospital with her in the "emergency" room instead of like supporting me, she would just cuss me out
how f***ing weak i am and s***Like she always does this, each time someone hurt or down she would just blame it on something different and we at home have noticed how she still has this African mentality about things like Sexuality and Disorders...
Now too, im home cant do s*** with my knee due to surgery couple days ago and she already starts cussing me out and expects me to walk
i can barely even move my damn leg 
I know its a known thing in african communities that certain things be swept under the rug but why, just open up abit goddamn
my parents are Nigerian and exactly like this, honestly you just got to live with the s*** man. If your parents are anything like mine then having a discussion with them about this s*** ain't gonna work either cause they have this belief that the elders are always right.
Moving out like someone mentioned in this thread is like the only solution lol.
Even then, try not to think too much about this situation man they were brought up like that for years and don't know any better. At the end of the day they are still your parents, don't move out and completely shut them out your life

I defff feel you. I've lost my cool on here from time to time too. S*** happens, especially when it comes to issues close to home. This s*** runs deep, it's not easy. But it's much better when we focus our energy on the things we actually have control over, and what we can impact. The very fact that you were open to criticism from Freee and I and reevaluate so fast is progress in itself, you good, we all growing. I appreciate the dialogue, communication is key, in our families (@OP) and in our communities.
