I feel like this is a super important topic that we rarely talk about. The fact that doctors treat black people differently when it comes to medical practices.

The idea that black people are a lot less vulnerable to pain that everyone else. This topic I never really thought of at first but it was brought up by black women and how black women die the most during childbirth and it’s partly due to the belief they can handle pain amongst other things.

There’s so many stories of black women going to doctors for doctors to dismiss their concerns and with that, black men have been coming forward as well.

Someone replied to this saying they went to the doctors for something serious and the doctor said they didn’t have a problem because their skin wasn’t turning blue...which for majority of us, lots of serious illnesses will be missed because no one else can see them just that we can only experience it.

I’m not sure if I’ve experienced it but I remember I had an operation on my eye and they said they had put anaesthesia but I could feel everything. I could feel the drill, I could feel the burning. I’m never really had much surgery for anything else so I couldn’t really compare it...

Any of you been in a similar situation?

Was going through health issues a few years ago; alot of pain every single day. Went to specialist, after specialist and after running tests they would give me the run around on a diagnosis + refer me to another doctor. Mind you, these niggas are hard as f*** to make appointments for. You schedule in June and won't see them till October

Long story short, I said f*** all this running around. We already ruled out life-threatening s***. I changed my diet, started working out more and now I use tea + ibuprofen when I'm in pain (which has VASTLY subsided and no longer daily).

i think for my case they just injected my eye with the anaesthesia? idk but they told me i wasn’t supposed to feel anything

i never had any surgery before that and i haven’t had one since so i think it’s probably the most painful thing i’ve experienced

Its crazy that you posted that article and mentioned this, cause one of the specialist deadass said this to me "Your symptoms are out of my league" and sent me packing to another specialist

The next specialist ruled out alot of s*** which I appreciated, but pretty much said the same s*** as the 1st one. Sent me packing back to my family doctor

Wow that’s crazy because if they injected it your definitely not suppose to be feeling anything. Sorry you had to go through that

I actually wrote a literature review abt ethnic bias in healthcare for uni a couple of weeks ago lol

Pediatricians are less likely to give non-white children pain killers the more ethnic bias they have it goes deep
