I would be terrified as a black person in certain parts of this country that I could have a white doctor that really didn’t give a f*** about me or might even have ill will towards me that’s scary af

Was going through health issues a few years ago; alot of pain every single day. Went to specialist, after specialist and after running tests they would give me the run around on a diagnosis + refer me to another doctor. Mind you, these niggas are hard as f*** to make appointments for. You schedule in June and won't see them till October

Long story short, I said f*** all this running around. We already ruled out life-threatening s***. I changed my diet, started working out more and now I use tea + ibuprofen when I'm in pain (which has VASTLY subsided and no longer daily).

Yea most symptoms you feel go away with just diet it’s really about you are what you eat

But even besides ill will, implicit bias is still very widespread though and has a big impact on quality of treatment

but that’s the thing, it’s mostly getting research because of people sharing their experiences. if no one did then it would continue...

And I have my own experiences. Which can be the same as theres or completely different, and everything in between. Which is exactly why I like to look into s*** that's more credible first.

we all have our own experiences. i was never saying that every black person 100% has a bad experience at the doctors but obviously if there are multiple people talking about the same issue then it would be pretty silly to start talking about “i need proof first i need proof first”.

so many black people have been affected by covid because of this kinda thing

Not going to talk about what happened. But I almost lost my life dealing with white and Asian doctors. From terrible misdiagnosis to not believing me about pain and symptoms. Got to the point where I want nothing to do with the healthcare system and am going to have to face whatever outcomes come from me not seeing them for anything because I no longer trust them. The s*** was really bad. We’ll see what happens.

i think for my case they just injected my eye with the anaesthesia? idk but they told me i wasn’t supposed to feel anything

i never had any surgery before that and i haven’t had one since so i think it’s probably the most painful thing i’ve experienced

Some people are resistant to local anesthesia. Happened to me at the dentist's. Not much you can do about it.

    nice one fam

it’s ridiculous they likely don’t teach about non white bodies and the doctors are mostly stumped too...

Generally they do teach that stuff. Higher risk of hypertension among black people is one example.

I remember when I was 16 & had to get some work done on a fracture and when I was waking up from the d**** one of those white b****es was talking s*** about how big my lips look

That s*** made me hate nurses/doctors cause when you are out they could be doing all types of f***ed up s***

There was a very good NPR podcasts talking about this and other areas such as education.

More black doctors are also needed as studies appear to show that they can convince more effectively the black patients to take more preventative medication/diagnosis that white doctors. You may get better outcomes by not being colourblind.
