I just posted a thread kinda touching on that topic
oh we are never getting a series like that though sadly
depends i don't think boyz in the hood is that good a movie but i can appreciate it for how much impact it has and how influential it is. I can't support something like madea tho just doesn't do anything for me
Belly slander is one thing, but Boyz n tha Hood slander should be an auto-ban
@PapiPedro I just saw this and thought of you, I love everything about this
Problem is black culture doesn’t know how to write “well” like they did in the ‘90s
what does this even mean ????
this is actually a topic that my father and I have talked about for many many years.
I've always been on the fence about supporting black movies solely because they're black. If i'm being honest, I'm not really happy with a lot of the black content that gets shoveled to the forefront for black consumers. I don't think black people need to have this sense of responsibility that often times turn into just pressure to support everything black just on the basis that it is black because truthfully, what if that s*** just ain't good?
On the other hand, I can recognize how gutless hollywood is. If a black movie isn't supported, they won't make more of it. They already don't have much faith in it to begin with. I think back to the massive success of Girl's Trip... I was working in a theater when that came out, I saw first hand how popular that movie was. That was five years and there has yet to be a sequel or anything for it. That goes to show that even well received black films don't guarantee anything. That film made 140 mil on a 19 mil dollar budget. I've seen franchises built off that.
All in all, I support black film that I like. I think it's important to support black creators continuing to create and find their voice. It's hard out here. the community that was created for black film, art, and music to succeed in the 90s is GONE. We're too scattered and most of us are happy to just continue taking whatever 3 black films are given to us, regardless of quality, just for the opportunity to see black people on a big screen.
I tried to when folk told me to watch these hood movies on Tubi. Didn’t even make it 10 minutes into Plug Love. Didn’t check out any of the other suggestions either
Uhh depends how bad. I really liked the movie Queen & Slim despite its flaws. Never met anyone irl who has seen it, and liked it. Majority people online say it was trash too. But I went on 2 separate dates to watch it.
Yall really don't see the stiff acting and terrible dialogue as valid criticisms of Belly? Movie looks good but that's it.
DMX's acting is great. Nas' acting and writing is what brings it down a bit but if you just view as a psuedo biopic about DMX it's works very well. His arc is very powerful and the surreal images is what makes the movie work for me.
Nas was on some lame bring me back to the motherland s***. He's truly the movies biggest flaw, other than that it's perfect. Hope we get a 4k remaster at some point.
