Depends on if you want a neater, clean look or just a freestyled look. I’ve done both before.

Growing & Maintaining Your Natural Hair Guide
There is no such thing as bad hair (unless you damage it). It's all about maintaining and taking care of it.

    Hair Types
    Type 2: Wavy

    • More prone to frizz.
    • Using anti-frizz products will help maintain good looking waves.
    • Try your best to keep your fingers out of wavy hair, the more you play with it = the more frizz you get.

    Type 3: Curly

    • Climate dependent (Humidity = Frizz).
    • Lack of care = dull and damaged curls.

    Type 4: Kinky Curly Coily

    • Driest hair type (more prone to breakage).
    • Use a gentle touch. Detangle and cleanse softly.
    • Moisturize daily to avoid breakage.
    • Avoid mineral and petrolatum oils.

    Essential hair products and tools

Shea Moisture: Coconut & Hibiscus Collection

    • Curl & Shine Shampoo. $10.99
    • Curl & Shine Conditioner. $11.99
    • Curl Enhancing Smoothie. $12.99
    • Raw Shea Butter, Extra-Moisture Detangler $11.99

    Cantu Beauty

    • Coconut curling cream. $5.99

    Miss Jessies

    • Coily Custard $13.99 (Transforms frizzy hair to soft curls, fights shrinkage and great for wash & go styling)
    • Leave In Condish $11

    Eco Styler

    • Olive Oil Styling Gel $5.99

    Aunt Jackie’s Don’t Shrink gel

    • Moisturizing styling gel $8.49

    Oils
Prices varies, most can be found at local supermarket or beauty supply store

    • Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil (Stimulates Hair Growth, Conditions, Repairs, Moisturizes, and styles hair. Smells great too )
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Moisturizes, Strengthens and softens hair. Fights against dandruff and split ends.)
    • Avocado Oil (Strengthens, Moisturizes, Shines, and repairs damaged hair.)
    • Black Jamaican Castor Oil (Rapid hair growth, thickens, repairs, shines, deeply conditions and moisturizes hair/scalp)

    Tools
Most can be found in your local beauty supply store or amazon

    • Satin pillowcases and scarves (preserves natural hair oils and less friction between hair and surfaces overnight)
    • Scrungy / Headband pack (Used to style your hair when sleeping or when you're going out)
    • Wide tooth comb (Used for detangling and styling hair)
    • Hair Pick (Used for styling and lifting hair)
    • Denman Brush (Used for detangling and styling your hair)

    Tips

    • Only wash your hair no more than twice a week. Washing everyday strips your hair of natural oils and causes thinning.
    • Never blow dry your hair it will cause heat damage. Air drying is the best way to go especially to avoid frizzing.
    • Never brush your hair when its wet, the brush will pull your hair strands.
    • Comb through your hair gently when styling with oils or when you're in the shower.
    • When using a hair pick, lift rom the roots upwards. This will lift your hair and give you more bounce/definition.
    • Use leave in conditioner 1-3 times a week unless you have type 4 kinky hair, use it everyday.
    • Sleep with satin surfaces (pillows, scarf etc) to avoid frizzing overnight.
    • When applying oils to your hair, apply it on your finger tips first and massage your scalp then to the rest of your hair gently.
    • If you notice split ends, go to a hair professional and ask them to clip it for you.
    • Use overnight routines to prep and help style your hair for the next day. (working on a post of youtube vid tutorials)
    • MOST IMPORTANTLY: Have a good diet, what you consume affects your hair.

Bro, what's a good high top cut that's in fashion?

I feel like the blow is too thotty.

Thinking about texturizing my hair and getting a high top taper fade

Adding the scarf with the pillowcase is such a good move

I got two off Amazon like these (haven't shopped there in a while and there wasn't anything particular about them just big and bright colors/patterns like these, same price point + black people be killing it on Etsy ) -

yeah this a thot cut . it's clean. but if you tryna go for a traditional look as far a fades go, peep page 10. it's a normal high fade but only looks good with short hair imo

Going for a clean professional look but at the same time want style, I don't want to look basic/stale

Surprised Aunt Jackie’s Don’t Shrink gel isn’t in the OP

Was messing with this girl and saw her apply it after a shower, had her curls looking magnificent

Copped a jar the next day and haven’t looked back since

But I’ve heard you get comparable results with just eco

Also, s/o to As I Am. The Double Butter cream is overpriced af but it’s a decent moisturizer for my hair

What you guys use on your beard to wash it? Also what oils?

Not trying to cop some s*** made for straight hair

    I just use black soap

There’s probably better products for beard washing but almost everything I’ve gotten that’s marketed towards black men’s beards has caused me problems

I have an oil mix that I use to moisturize so I get build up quick and ingrowns that become cyst because my hair is thick af (idk if anyone else itt can relate) so on top of the black soap I do ACV rinses regularly (depends on how active)

After 4 long years...I've come to the realization my dreads have come to the end of their run :

Kinda thinking of getting a high top like Tyler. The best thing to do though is to let my new growth grow some before chopping it all off??? So I'm not completely bald?

I wanna get my hair like Joey Badass but I'm feeling mad hesitant based off this past picture of me when I used to have somewhat of a high top...do you think it'd be possible for me to achieve his typa s***? Or are our hair textures too different?

Admittedly, I suspect I maybe should have gotten a shape up with my hair to counter the way it looks uneven but idk...
