I’ll also think one of pan-africanism’s failing is “we’re all the same”. Like spiritually at its core it’s true. When you travel the world and randomly see a black person, there’s a shared gaze or nod that says hey I see you. And man is that s*** beautiful. Barriers of language transcends that. Yet, it still removes all the traditions and cultures that black ethic groups participate in that undoubtedly shapes perspective. It’d be insane for me to conflate the Dogon people’s belief systems with Yoruba beliefs lmao.

Instead it should be an embrace of perspective and differences, and how that yields to new opportunities to problem solving.

Marcus Garvey and W.E.B DuBois had two completely different perspectives uniquely shaped by their upbrings, etc. it’d be a bit dismissive to say but we’re the same.

    Bumping this again

The countries I named aren’t superpowers but were colonized by Europeans, they participated heavily in the slave trade and slaughtered and displaced natives, many of the things the US is also guilty of.

It’s not about riding with my dog whether right or wrong either. It’s just the simple fact that the same way a Haitian guy is Haitian, he has no connection to any west African country that his ancestors came from. That’s the same way we are American. But you’ll never see that Haitian being told to find his roots

key phrase was colonized by europeans. also those countries have a predominant population of said natives unlike the US. but like i've said, when it comes to other nations the critique can surely be levied of them holding onto remnants of the past but this distracts from my original pushback into more.. u guessed it, diaspora wars.

haitian example is a disingenuous and egregious comparison when uk the history actually, so not gonna entertain that.

it almost belongs in a satire

Less than 1% of Brazil is indigenous. South American countries were way worse than the United States when it came to genociding their natives and importing slaves.

Remove Haiti from it and throw in any other Caribbean country like DR. No one asks David Ortiz why he identifies as Dominican

“Fairs but niggas have never been patriotic unless it’s the Olympics lmao. Sure you could point to the rich history of black people in the military but outside of that it’s not really an overwhelming sentiment that I’m proud to be American. More or less I’m proud of the contributions my ancestors made”

uon see wat we doin now? lol

that indigenous word funny, as if that dont apply to Black folk (10% of the country btw). and then 45% is mixies so u know where that leaves us; "predominant".

    worse than the United States

again, the whole europeans in charge aspect of this is really being lost in translation here now. also not about to play pick and choose with countries for a moot and distracting point to be made. let's just leave here

I’m not sure what you’re getting at with the first part.

again, the whole europeans in charge aspect of this is really being lost in translation here now.

Are Spaniards and Portuguese not European?

Also a country like Jamaica let’s say being black ran doesn’t really make what I’m saying any different. A Jamaican person that is descended from slaves is still displaced from his native country due to the slave trade.

How is that handwringing? I’d rather you just say your bias and keep it pushing because you’re not doing this in good faith anymore. You be posting dogwhistle ass statements and be mad people ask what do you mean by that. stop trying to be a victim

Pan Africanism isnt about us all being the same culturally. It didnt even spring from culture. The ideology came about at the time when african countries were just starting to get their independence. It’s based around a collective African political interest. Not a shared culture

  • Commercial break

This is insane and probably best for another conversation about leftists getting wayyyy too comfortable with us

    Bumping this again

Pan-Africanism isn’t about pushing a “we’re all the same” ideology. It’s about solidarity among predominantly black ethnic groups, especially in the face of outside agitators to put it lightly.

Again, the problem starts arising when yall get on this delineation soapbox. Brazilians, Cubans, Colombians, Haitians, Jamaicans etc will proudly tell you they’re descendants of Africans, while still asserting their own identities that have been born from the separation. Then if you actually travel to these places, there are very large swathes of communities in these countries that keep their African traditions alive, front and center. That just ain’t the same here in America. Getting a Black American to even say they’re of African descendant is met with such vitriol nowadays, not even talking about those who claim FBA.

Even as a shorty, it was not uncommon for me to hear the parents of my friends say things like “We don’t do that African s*** here. This is America”

i think also african americans specifically have been disrespected by everyone, even their disapora brothers and sisters for far too long

and honestly, for what african americans have done vs how were treated, i don't judge someone for going insane FBA. do i think they bugging yes but also we as a people need more recognition on us having a culture (the most influential one on earth) and despite not knowing where we came from (even though at this point i 1000% consider america home and think its the country my people built because they did) we have been able to move mountains

in reality this is all fueled by white people on twitter starting diaspora wars

    Exactly bingo.

How many times can you get s***ted on before you say enough is enough and just scream f*** everybody? People s*** on African American for white validation mean while standing on the soil that the African American man and woman built. Should we stick together as black people? Yes but op you can’t make it like it’s a one sided thing. I remember reading a post with mad Dominicans on ig doing the Dominicans are black debate and a few mother f***ers in the comments said “we don’t want to associate ourselves with African Americans because they’re labeled lazy and uneducated they’re the ones pushing that agenda” I was flabbergasted by the delusion. We receive the most hate then every group of people so I honestly don’t blame them for fighting back and being proud of themselves. But I do feel like us as black people need to stand together wether you’re AA,Jamaican,African, Haitian etc

  • Scratchin Mamba

There's something rly weird about how black people are perceived to embody gender in the eyes of cacs

You got the classic white boy acting like whatever archetype of black guy is in style for his age, the white gay dude acting like black women, white lesbians acting like Jadakiss

They get into it so much they lose the plot and forget they're cacs

white lesbians actin like jadakiss is crazy
