Yea I thought people were hating when they said that this man basically has made the same show 3 times now but it's a very valid critique.

Its going for an Arrested Development vibe but also it's heavy in your face with the "this is what black people do and how we think about things"

From what I read this show is going to be full of the stuff ABC wouldn't let him do with Blackish.

I hate the entire issa rae wave of "My entire media presence revolves around my radical blackness but I make shows about suburban black people that are about as "unapologetically black" as a minstrel show

  • Apr 21, 2020

    This is very average

  • Apr 21, 2020

Good average show to waist your time to. I just don’t like the black history lessons midway through the show they forcefeed you when the show is getting funny or enjoyable

it’s weird to me how pretty much everyone was light skinned in the trailer. if you’re gonna have a show about being black, you’d think you’d represent more than what they showed. Does the show have dark skinned people?

That’s something that bothers me about black representation in the media.

Most of the people representing us are always mixed or light as hell.

Never any brown/dark skin people unless it’s something negative..

I feel like Insecure & Atlanta are the main 2 shows that dont perpetuate that.

I didn't say anything about atlanta but I feel like both issa and donald and whoever created this would vote for biden. Or worse

tbh rashida low key the funniest character on the show and I think it’s cause she’s literally the only person in the cast w real acting experience in comedies.

    • the fact that she looks like a 100% white lady kinda makes it even funnier I dunno

Bruh, there are plenty of shows. Black people, like you probably, don't watch them then complain. You know many shows on BET have casts with plenty of brown/dark casts? Sistas and Boomerang to name two, which I can probably guarantee you've never watched either. You got The Last OG on TBS with predominately brown/dark skin people cast also, Lil Rel had his sitcom on Fox with mostly brown/dark skin people, etc.

    Watch Queen Sugar fam.

Full of Brown & Dark skin folks in positive lights and discusses colorism among other things.

It's an award worthy show but nobody gives a s*** about it. David Makes Man is another one, even has the honor of being led by a dark skinned boy & his love interest isn't a biracial litebright.

You absolutely right and I can't f***ing stomach it anymore lmao

Especially Insecure which I might just stop watching. The blackness on these shows is so performative. We are more than the hood so why does Issa have to have performative "I'm college educated and raised in the burbs but I'm ghetto yall" ass vibes. S*** is awful.

  • Apr 25, 2020

This show made me like that Jay Rock song.

"You either with me or against me hoe"

I don't really consider Issa or Molly to be ghetto, they just use the vernacular sometimes.

You can also add Twenties, Black Lightning, Southside, The Chi, Black lady sketch show, Astronomy club, hell you can even throw in Kenya's other shows Blackish and Grownish. They all feature various shades of black ppl.
