The first game I ever & only plat or got all achievements for this & last gen.

The first game I ever bought DLC for (I'm still really stingy with DLC. Only bought the first Fallout 4 expansion, Monster Hunter World expansion, Forza Horizon 4 first expansion & The Witcher 3 expansions).

The first game I ever put in over 200 hours in a single file (now Forza Horizon 4 & Monster Hunter World are part of that club too).

The game that made me jump into the ps4/x1 gen & my first time playing any souls game (bought my PS4 with Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid 5 & Fallout 4).

It's now my favorite game of all time.

Can you explain why you love it?

I tried and just got my ass kicked and gave up. Why do you guys love this s*** so much?
Do you just love how difficult it is or what?

  • Nov 24, 2019

I never died more than 7 times against a boss in this game, including DLC & dungeon bosses.

Gascoigne & Lagarious are the hardest for me. Lost against them both 7 times. Didnt think I would be able to get past Gascoigne & was tripping that I might not be able to Play through the game. Decided to try it one more & if I lost I would return it, but I ended up winning with the rules of the game clicking for me.

Blood Starved Beast was probably the easiest boss in the whole game for me & one of the very few bosses I beat on my first try.

    no
you need to get a hang of dodging
you can dodge right though attacks if you time them right like in dark souls

The game is not your "standard action game". Don't play it like that. If you play it like that then you won't get anywhere, such as button mashing, rushing etc. The game has its own "rules", & the more you go against it then the more difficult it'll be.

I love the game because of it's atmosphere, lore, monster design & gameplay. The environments are very detailed like the streets of Yahrnam for example, it's almost as if you can smell it & the in-depth sound design adds to that. The gothic england era architecture/environments & lovecraftian influences are also fantastic, as I'm already a fan of both.

The lore is awesome. I played the game blindly my first play through, so piecing everything together myself from descriptions, environmental story telling, scraps of dialogue & cryptic cutscenes was a lot of fun & kept me really interested. I felt like I was my hunter, trying to piece together why this infection is happening & Why do these people have a connection with it. How it goes from infection, to super natural & then f***ing interdimensional space alien creatures.

The monster design is just f***ing awesome. This is a real personal take, but I grew up watching Godzilla movies, animes such as Yu Yu Hakusho or Inyuhasa, Star Wars & playing Pokemon and s*** as a kid. Reading Spawn comics as I got older & playing things such as Monster Hunter or Ninja Gaiden. I'm also a huge animal lover myself with a lot of pets etc. Basically I love creature design & monsters, & the designs in Bloodborne strike all the right cords for me. It makes me excited to see what the next boss is going to look like. What it's gonna do & how it's going to react. It keeps me interested & motivated.

The gameplay is amazing & another huge drawer for me. The way you have to think about & recognize your enemy. The way the game encourages you to be aggressive but you still have to be mindful of what you & your opponent is doing & learn to be patient at the right times. The way some battles can become like a dance with you against a humanoid or monster character, exchanging blows, dodging in between each other & trying to outsmart one another. How every weapon is really unique from one another with its own combos & abilities to the point they are all different playstyles & classes.

How your character build still matters, but it also doesn't completely bar you off from entire sets of weapons. It's really fun, exciting & keeps me thinking. Instead of mostly mindlessly slashing or plowing through everything without much thought or impact. The game wants you to be strategic to a degree. Instead of tackling every situation the same, the game encourages experimentation & different playstyles. Instead of the game spoon feeding you everything, it's up to you to explore & discover things, but that's only if you want too. The game doesn't force you to do much, it lets you yourself make up your own mind. I don't love it because "it's a hard game", but it being an easy game would have lessen a lot of impactful moments. The first time I beat Gascoigne or when I finally defeated Lagarious. Its very satisfying, & to me they never felt "bullshittery", so the feeling of satisfaction isn't cheapen & it only having one difficulty option tells me it's all built with purpose & designed with intent. Its meant to be this way, but it's also created to still be beatable.

Basically, for me personally, this game feels like it was made for me. As if someone asked me what do I want in a game. Moreso than any other game, while games such as Metal Gear, Nioh, Okami, Monster Hunter World & Ninja Gaiden have been close, but not as close as Bloodborne. It is a challenging, but fair game that leaves a lot in control of the player with a lot of mystery & wonder to keep the player interested. Its also just simply fun as hell & dope as f***.

This is why I love the game, & why it's my #1 fav of all time.

Bloodborne was never that hard to me too honestly. As long as you play smart & follow patterns then the game becomes a lot more easy. The game was never "uber hard" to me. It can get frustrating, but it never felt impossible & I never died or struggled as much as people claim they do. Bloodborne isn't my first "really hard" game either I've played other "hard asl games" such as Ninja Gaiden Black & older Monster Hunters growing up, so maybe that has to do with it, but the game being challenging is one of it's positives for me.

Challenging but fair while still being fun & interesting.

Bloodborne was my first Souls game tho. Now ive played all the other Souls games except Demon, & ive beaten & love Nioh.

Which btw Nioh 2 needs to hurry up & come out already. The betas & alphas was so good

Oh man... you quit right when the game really starts to get good.

Everything before the forest is basically an introduction. Things really start to go off the rails.

Just wanted to say that it's crazy how different some bosses can be in challenge for some people. Orphan of Kos only took my 2 tries when I played the DLC for the first time.

Orphan of Kos was literally the only boss in the game I could not defeat. Ashamed to say but I summoned help for that s*** smh

Damn really? I wonder how you approached it. For me I remember I was kinda close to him a lot. He’d do that jumping thing with his sack and I’d just sorta walk around it and chip away at damage. I don’t remember how I did it now it’s been a while but I guess I just got lucky. It was my third playthrough of the game so maybe I just got the hang of everything.

Logarius & Laurence gave me trouble. I beat Gascoigne my first try though I remember everybody hated him lol
