the music ain't bad, far from it
but for 2020 standards, it isn't "mind altering" like op is saying, it kinda has a country twang to it that a lot of ppl raised on modern pop & hip hop may be turned off by, but the the lyrics have that quality that op is searching for
Bro the band on Highway 61 Revisited was damn good, for someone with the voice of a dying cat he really knew how to work with it too
2020 standards is just some electronic bleep bloops on top, they wouldn't've improved his songs
You should. You're a Nas fan
Nas voice and beats are all goated to me tho lol

Nas is the Bob Dylan of Hip-Hop. A lyrical giant.

Yeah I agree
I like Nas a lot more just personally speaking

F*** what the old heads say, Dylan is an acquired taste.
I love him, but I wouldn't recommend his music to most people.
There's a small percentage of people that value lyrics over music.
That and blonde on blonde is exactly what I’m referring to.
I might not have given him a fair chance tho tbh. I just went back and it’s some great music there. I expected something more...crazy? I guess
Listen to Highway 61 and Bringing it all

Yeah you just gotta appreciate raw songwriting to enjoy him
Travis Scott heads who need high value production and vocal effects would be disappointed I guess
Halftime playing as I type
Tbh a couple years ago I heard Highway 61 Revisited and felt it was the Illmatic of rock then had it on loop for like 2 days
After that I just forgot about it tho

It’s not even about valuing music over lyrics. They are both a part of the package. Dylan might be more exceptional as a poet than as a songwriter, but he still has consistently great sounding songs. At least for me, I don’t just go for him for lyrics even tho that’s the main seller- it’s about the whole atmosphere he brings

He was a dope ass guitarist too
Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth has an interview out there where he talks about it

I understand what you mean. That's how I feel about Blonde on Blonde. I love the carnival-esque atmosphere of that album. You can smell the sawdust and popcorn as soon as the music starts
the hicks exiting a barn is a more integral part to the scene than the fire itself
dylan is the highest order of music royalty. i expected something mind altering like when i got put on to pink floyd as a teenager
I guess hes not exactly on another level instrumentally but like someone else already said, thats not his schtick. The value is in the writing

Does it count as high production value when its mixed by mike dean?

Hicks don't listen to Bob Dylan lmao, white college kids do
But check out Planet Waves, Highway 61 revisited, and Freewheeling Bob Dylan that's his best 3 imo
