It demeans rap as an artform. Even if it is in service of bigging up Ka. It's like when people try to compare rappers to Shakespeare. As if rap is unworthy on its own.

I completely agree. I feel the same about WSG calling himself an "artist" and not a "rapper." Same with Kanye. It's like they're trying to transcend or discard the genre as if it can't encompass high concept ideas

I find WSG pretentious as hell. His work does not live up to his posturing no matter how many bells and whistles he throws on it. People just kind of go along with it though.

That’s fair. I fw his music heavy, but he’s admittedly EXTREMELY self-absorbed. I think he’s a creative mastermind tho so I can forgive it. He has some amazing albums.
