Imagine wanting to own sneakers based only on their secondhand market value

Just invest in the stock market. Stop ruining sneakers for the people who like to wear them. Nobody gives a f*** that you made $300 in profit off some Jordan 1s that you hoarded for 2 years.

We might be in a bubble. Have you considered the possibility?

Even auction houses run by aristocrats and fine art hoarders like Sotheby's and Bonham's sell sneakers. Wake up.

such a lame take, wanting to hand over sneaker culture to the über wealthy and/or culture vultures

  • Jan 17, 2021

I've seen a few YouTubers and people on insta wearing random/cheap/"fake" brands that play with the AJ1 silhouette. I'd rather see people do that than try to further commodify the sneaker industry

    Sorry. Misinterpreted.

Thought he meant recent example, instead of upcoming example.

ok but shoes like that are impossible to get for retail

    I don't have a number.

You can buy a single shoe and earn an insane ROI.

But how do you plan on obtaining these shoes you speak of to give you a ROI that is worth your time and money as opposed to other streams of income

I dont think op thought this through. He is telling us to buy “unappreciated” sneakers then links one that is on the market for $2000

and immediately started selling for that much. it'd be different if it was a shoe that sat that then sold for that much years later but that almost never happens and when it does its impossible to predict

  • Jan 17, 2021

im prob gonna sell a few things off to fund new purchases the next while but I can never fw the idea of going out of my way to buy something just to flip. Like unless it's a shoe like the Ben & Jerry's dunk it just feels like more effort than I care about to make some cash on the side. I guess it's different if you're making a living off it or just a kid or w/e but

Tbh I will say that most people are influenced on some level by hype and typically therefore resale value. don't really think anybody is immune but fashion sxn prob better than most places for liking its own thing

    I understand your grievances man...

The big auction houses are profiting off of nearly every aspect of hip hop, from sneakers to the work of graffiti artists (many of whom were never embraced by the art community when they were alive) to iconography (the crown Biggie wore in that famous photo recently sold for a king's ransom).

It's incredibly ironic and it sucks.

I know you hurt over my “smile” comment but is it that KTT does it’s own thing or is it because majority can’t afford the more hyped pieces they would like? (I know some can, not speaking for everyone)

And to me 90% of people here dress the same as college kids who have an idea of fashion but wear normal stuff they can afford, so wouldn’t consider that ya “own thing”

Bro why would I be 'hurt' by the smile comment I just thought it was a dumb complaint after fawning over bari fits where he's doing the same thing

  • Jan 17, 2021

and i meant strictly sneakers tbh, think a lot of ppl here like stuff outside of hype of the month trav or ice cream sneakers

It wasn’t a complaint, it was a question of why do niggas do the depressed look. And then a suggestion.
    There’s a difference.

Same way there’s a difference between mean mugging (which you said Bari was doing) VS looking sad

Saying “smile” was a nice way of me saying niggas need to have more personality in they pics, if they lack personality then smiling is an easy way to help with that. Personality/confidence is like 50% of why a fit looks good on 1 person but not the other.
