How do Cactus Jack & Dreamville escape the sweat shop allegations that Drake gets with OVO?
Travis has Don Toliver on Cactus Jack who really should be pretty huge right now but he never gets the marketing he deserves, his style of music is literally fully mainstream yet Trav still can't make this guy a star. His latest album sold 76k, which is decent but he has arguably a top 5 artist in the world behind him. He should be doing better, he would be under a better label. Lets not even talk about Sheck Wes and SoFaygo..
Dreamville is damn even worse, yet no one ever gives Cole s***. The label is a bunch of failures, how the f*** its called Dreamville I don't know, all making rap yet no one can jump out? People been talking bout JID becoming huge one day for damn 8 years at this point. Bro is about to turn 34. I haven't seen Dreamville do S*** for him for years & years. Bas/Cozz/Omen/EarthGang etc? Lets not even talk bout them. Ari Lennox would also be bigger on a different label
All this yet OVO the only label I see called the sweatshop boys, how come? Is Cole just too respected?
Meanwhile ovo artists have strong fan bases and tour internationally
Dreamville is actually a great label full of talent who regularly release music. They're not "failures". They're working musicians. Dreamville does collab taps, they have a yearly festival, they have a regional base. Never heard an unkind word from any of their artists.
The "sweatshop" allegations are about Drake only signing lesser than R&B acts to eat up their talent. S/o Weeknd for not signing his life away
Because they don't care, they are just desperate to find ways to hate.
XO, Cactus Jack, Dreamville are not doing enough for their artists yet they only talk about OVO
Not sure what pgLang is doing, 4 years and his cousin is the only one signed. Tanna Leone got kicked out pretty quickly
op is severely mentally ill
i dont listen to him but didn't JID just have a huge song?
Surround Sound plays all the time still on the radio, yeah lol. And he was just on Eminem’s album. JID isn’t some megastar, but he’s plenty big.
Cole puts out Dreamville albums to try to put on his team.
the sweatshop thing is because people claim that Drake takes his signees hits for himself. Cole writes his own music.
JID can never be a huge artist he's as big as he'll ever be.
Don Toliver is on a nice steady rise but he can only be so big.
It's simply a different climate rn there is only so "big" an artist can get. Even somebody like Yeat who looked like he would be the biggest thing since sliced bread has arguably hit their peak in this climate.

Tanna Leone was kicked for selling leaks
but all these labels are trash i agree
Cole dropped multiple Dreamville collab albums and is constantly featured on all his artists songs as well
OVO?
its funny the only person put on by jackboys was someone who wasnt even on the label
RIP Pop

That's everything that Drake does with his artists too though, so I don't get how that's enough for Cole/Dreamville but not for Drake/OVO
OVO?
they’re not rappers lmaooo
Feel like people who make these threads really don’t understand the dynamics of marketing / building a label and or company from the ground up (especially music). Things become increasingly opaque and convoluted when you’re an “indie” label in music. It’s funny to even think that people would think Travis has any say or action in Don T’s success and marketing.

Pop Smoke was making hits way before this jackboys album lmao
Didn’t Dreamville invite a bunch of successful and talented rappers to share studio time and album space with their roster? Then put on a massive festival and give a spot to everyone on the roster?
That's everything that Drake does with his artists too though, so I don't get how that's enough for Cole/Dreamville but not for Drake/OVO
The sticking point is signing almost exclusively R&B acts to hoover up their talent for himself. If they have any. That's another issue.
One guy signed Lute and Bas and Omen and one guy signed Smiley. Cole knew his boys for like 10 years. Says it all. We can go failure for failure but we can't go meme for meme. Naomi Sharon vs Ari Lennox. Dvsn vs Earth Gang.

He was kicked for that?
How did you find that out?

Huh? these artists have way more influence than you think, those RoTD Dreamville tapes Cole did a few years ago caused a s*** ton of people to look into all those random artists. It wouldn't have been anywhere near as effective without Cole
Big artists should be doing stuff like that regularly if they have their own label, it's the same as how I guarantee 50%+ of Partynextoodr's fans became a fan from a collab he did with Drake, especially since they have 10 collabs
