dude most of them literally operate in materialism and take what they find as the end all be all after it is foundthey operate under the guise or concept of materialism, they have to get materialistic justifications for their theories and different experiments + studies that they conduct. this is how science works, the issue is when people take it for all that there is, as in there is no room for the philosophical implications of said theory and/or study or what was found
this is where you get people saying s*** like “we’re just a bunch of cells and neurons dude” no, that’s what we are STRICTLY UNDER a scientific EYE, which is ONE FIELD of STUDY
it is not THE FIELD OF STUDY
Stephen hawking was not a "pop scientist" just because he was famous and wrote books and stuff like that for a general audience to digest as well. Pretty sure there is a world of difference between how he is regarded vs someone like Dawkins or the other person you mentioned. He was an actual important scientist
And as far as the other stuff goes I'm not as confident in you are to be able to really discuss it or debate tbh. Especially on philosophy side I'm just not super interested atm tbh

just because someone has a ton of knowledge and/or authority in a certain topic or subject does not mean that they cannot be wrong on certain things
Hawking was obviously a genius and way above my intellectual pay grade, but he too, operated under scientific materialism which is absolutely untenable philosophically.

yeah he was, but Einstein actually exhibited some idealistic thought during his time within science, he famously once asked “Is the moon still there if we aren’t seeing it?” (probably butchered the living s*** out of that quote, but he definitely said it) so he’s cool under my book 😎

Materialism is not “absolutely untenable under philosophy “ lol materialism vs idealism has been the biggest and most important debate in philosophy for centuries. If it was absolutely untenable we wouldnt still be having these conversations.

because for some reason a belief in God is supposed to be something that the ignorant ancients did, and that science has long since dispelled all notions of spirituality and irrationality, the moment there is something that is inexplicable or doesn’t fit into a materialistic box or framework, it has to be dismissed under the grounds of pseudo-science, rationalized away etc. to not let any metaphysical feet in the door whatsoever

None of the people who rag on materialism have read or even tried to understand what dialectical materialism is. It’s a shame because Engels, Lenin, and Mao all thoroughly and effectively repudiate all their beef with mechanical materialism (which is the straw man theyre attacking most of the time)

Brah Marx, Engels, Lenin, Ilyenkov, and Mao all read idealist literature deeply and responded to this stuff in depth. You’re attacking a strawman. I highly recommend peeping Dialectics of Logic by Ilyenkov, he does an in depth overview of all the major German Idealist thinkers and then spends the last part responding and making the case for materialism
