def get some Rio/Detroit vibes too esp w the way they use humor in their lyrics

And that’s why I was like when he signed to Daisy lane

    Perfect match

what @JitJuvenile is kinda true. like same thing w lil b.. you either get it and fw it heavy or you don’t really fw it at all and it might just seem like a joke/meme.

a lot of my friends tell me it’s just too hard to keep up w all the music/overwhelming discography so they don’t even know where to start and catching up just feels kinda impossible/like work.

also like 90% of their songs sound like it was recorded through a potato in the early 2000s so that could be off putting to a lot of ppl. especially when most new rap music these days sounds super crispy/clean and loud n s***.

also the punch in style flow/rapping might be a turn off to mainstream rap fans but that style is also kinda getting more popular now esp in ny.

yeah I get that its not lost upon me. I think the difference though is that w rx is so much more clear that his fanbase is sold on the fusion of humor and good technicality than lil b bc so much of lil b's fanbase only recognized the swag/cook/tybg stuff even though he does have really good material

I think you're right on the punch style flow gaining traction because it leaves more room for people to digest bars as quotables iykwim? I also see that becoming more widely accepted than a Detroit/lo-fi thing

Someone bringing something different to the table and being themselves but for real. It’s refreshing and it’s nice that we constantly get new music.

Like we can compare other rappers to Pap to try to build a family tree but really Pap is doing Pap. Same thing with Neph. My favorite rappers since Rio got locked up

    Free Rio 😤

Yeah it seems like that's the only true answer - he is just doing him. I haven't heard rx nephew or rio yet obv but I can't imagine that the insularity that makes rx so appealing doesn't apply to either of them just as strongly

It really does sound like recorded thru a potato

But I can look past it cuz it’s just…..addicting

    Put it in my veins

    P much.

Rio I feel def helped father a style in Michigan rap. I don’t think any rappers were doing it quite the way he was until people started copying his style.

But even then. Rio I don’t think compares to Rx, cuz Rx is really pushing the limits/rules of music, as dumb as that might sound to some. It’s like they are coloring outside the lines and doing things the wrong way but still be so good.

i think the difference is that pap oscillates between being hilarious & being vulnerable instantly which is like really visceral with his yelling delivery & rax mix on a lot of his songs its super cathartic. whereas babytron is just an elite punch rapper while being a lil 1 dimenional

yep. it's like another babytron situation

he's one of those artist whose sound+aesthetic definitely lends him to a more meme-y audience but he's also genuinely nice w/ it

sometimes he'll hop on some more traditional stuff and just spazz out

there's also this triumphant aura that I get about him in lieu of that insularity. Like someone who's more convincingly revulsed by the idea of being in extroverted/hyper socialized situations than other rappers who may boast their desire to be alone in a more performative way. so not from an apathetic sense but just from an authentically introverted sense. From what I observe through the tweets and stuff on here people really gravitate to that alienist hedonism and I dont blame em

Like I randomly look up YouTube and there’s a new song

    Work ethic crazy

  • i get the duwap comp lowkey

rio is kinda in a diff lane with RMCMike and stuff giants in the michigan scene

rx kinda their own lane, neph i think is a bit more interesting musically but im more bought into pap's persona maybe he's more personal never really thought about it

  • Jun 15, 2021

He's different in a really cool way. He can be really funny, introspective, relatable, ridiculous.. all on the same song. He sounds great on lots of different types of production and comes with all kinds of flows. Same goes for Neph too.
