i think the difference is that pap oscillates between being hilarious & being vulnerable instantly which is like really visceral with his yelling delivery & rax mix on a lot of his songs its super cathartic. whereas babytron is just an elite punch rapper while being a lil 1 dimenional

yeah I think the theme of viscerality as a common denominator in hip hop today is so dependent on 808s/sonics to where "recording out of a potato" actually benefits rx in allowing those oscillations of character to shine through a lot more palpably

i'm just saying out of the amount of rappers/musicians that are actually doing something new that yall give the "who?" treatment, it's funny what is deemed "something different to the table" is all.

tbf i don't necessarily think they're doing anything too unheard of but their music still goes

for sure it's not dissimilar to what earl/slums do with their mixing/recording altho obvi much different content & style there's like 0 emotional latency in the music its just full of texture maybe we arrvied at that point bc professional studio quality is accessible to pretty much absolutely anyone but idk how you'd measure that - kinda a diff topic tho lol

I don’t really think any Rx fam does the “who” gimmick

And what artists are doing different stuff?

Sure the punch in flow wasn’t invented by them but they also don’t use orthodox flows in general. You can’t help but say they are different and incomparable to anyone else

it speaks to something though. rap fans in general are tired of using technicality as a barometer for whose going to be the next legend and all that. post drake idk if anyone can gain a strong fanbase off of the merits of traditional technical skill. I'm looking out for that next legend as much as the next guy but I think I'm starting to admit to myself that its not even appropriate for the kind of interpersonal connection music forum kids like us want from of an artist today

  • dudes just enjoyable lol

idk why people gotta look past someone just being fun and fresh to listen to

    define "different"

you talking about orthodox/unorthodox flows I mean a few years ago niggas was making memes and laughing at blueface for "not finding the beat"

i think artists that are providing a fresh sound? idk. smino, kenny mason, devin morrison, moor mother?

It's a lot more artists that are doing more musical and technically different stuff. Like you can just say these rx niggas sound good but they're style is literally nothing new at all.

its important to evaluate what makes something authentic to you. I'm more or less an outsider musically and culturally in this discussion but knowing that musical trends come and go has to come with an understanding of why people do and dont resonate with things as time goes by. relatability in this sense is so reliant on how sects of people view themselves on interpersonal and societal levels, and in the vein of social media culture and all that the amount of artists who resonate with people like yourself in this kind of way really are few and far between.

I've personally never claimed that the punch-in was new.. s***, Pun used to punch-in (though, it was probably more due to being out of breath than a stylistic choice.)
