He's awesome but I'd take Charles Mingus, Dmitri Shostakovich, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, Gustav Mahler, Tim Buckley, Lou Reed, Carla Bley, Cecil Taylor, Pierre Boulez, Krzysztof Penderecki, Captain Beefheart, Nick Cave, Bela Bartok and maybe Györgi Ligeti over him.

You got some good picks but tbh I wouldn’t put them above Miles. I would say Zappa, Coltrane, Lou, and Cave come the closest, but Miles is a trailblazer. Without him, the world of music as we know it today would be drastically different.

    no problem!

Jazz is a top 5 genre for me along with Rap, RnB, Indie Rock & alt Electronic.

Idris Muhammed aint to bad too

but Bob James is up there with Coltrane & Miles for me, & if ur into 90s hiphop, you might pick up on some records that were heavily sampled from him too

Beefheart influenced the new wave like crazy and his intuitions still continue to influence. + I'd personally take TMR over any Davis album

How you gonna imply Beefheart slander when him and Zappa were musical brothers

But yeah I do agree his discography is inconsistent

    Beefheart is Zappa's Pippen.
Not saying he sucks or any of those people suck, Velvet Underground is one of my favorite albums.
Just Miles Davis is another level
Feels like dude was naming people just to do so

Sure, but aside from the rock picks rather generic.

forgot Cage and Schönberg but somehow I didn't want to add them even though they are probably the most influential figures of the early 20th century alongside with Mahler.
