!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvlEcrWCO2M!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3eiryKSE8sHe's up there w/your Drake's, Kendrick's, whoever you wanna name when it comes to rapping. His biggest issue has been that he's been typecast into a rapper who shouldn't be taken as seriously, and has been fighting that ever since.
That and the fact that IMO he suffers from a lack of guidance to flesh out some of his ideas.
What guys like Cole, Drake, and Kendrick have over him is not talent, it's their teams. In house executive producers and pseudo A&R's that help create their sound, and help propel their talents.

No he not, he with the Meek/Wale group
Blood off beat far too much
This is easily my favorite Big Sean song
I was a big fan of FF3 but wasn’t feeling his debut. Detroit was when he refined his style. Production and lyrics weren’t as goofy and didn’t rely on punchlines as much
Higher still brings me back to when I was a kid. Makes me reminisce about being a young nigga with dreams lol love the introspective vibe. The beat sounds like something you play in the whip at night. Riding alone, looking at the city lights. He has other songs with more bars but his performance on Higher feels less contrived bc he was just talking about his life

I wouldn't say he's as talented as them and the reason for their positions in the industry is more than them having good teams/people around them.
In retrospect Sean was like Fab or Ma$e lol clever lines and perfect “swag” rapper to someone who is like 13-15
!https://youtu.be/F-nnEozuxxcExactly my experience. Was a huge Big Sean stan until I discovered J Cole and Kendrick in 9th grade and realized he's actually pretty ass
A vague song about memories is not See World or Say Whats Real but this site got mad annoying with doing what you doing rn lol
You're talking to someone who legitimately thinks there's no difference between Big Sean and Kendrick/Cole/Drake. Just hit him with a and go about your day
Honestly he’s the epitome of a rapper who has all the intangibles just doesn’t have a wild enough story from his teenage years to really be anything more than what he is. He don’t have bothing exciting to rap about. That has struck so many rappers the past 15 years and thats one thing we should credit Drake for…he had a pretty boring upbringing but somehow never got caught up in not having s*** to rap about lol. Need a @Brave breakdown on why
Drake used necessary rap tropes to shake up the genre by going into the romance genre. Big Sean used necessary rap tropes to be Big Sean. One has vivid lyrics in their verses that are relatable and the other doesn’t attempt anything human
Big Sean is not human

Sean has plenty songs/albums that dig deep but ight lmfao

What informs Big Sean’s reputation @browser is talking about, songs like Deep Reverence or songs like Ass?

Idk but we could do that comparison for so many artists
If you can’t get anything relatable and deep from songs like Nothing Is Stopping You, Win Some Lose Some, Ashley, Sunday Morning Jetpack, Deserve It, Deep, Halfway off the Balcony, Bigger Than Me, Full Circle, Everything That’s Missing, World Ablazed, All Figured Out, which are just a few songs (spanning all the way back to his first album) out of many, then idk man. Salute

These are all after his “mixtape” era and on albums, also he always went for a certain type of cheesy beat when he did these
Again just objectively looking at why they didnt hit for him like Drake Cole Kendrick “deeeper” songs

Ight bruh
I think he got Kendrick on holy key
It was a tie truthfully
Sean performance being able to match up with him was pretty impressive though

And Drake’s lyrics are authentically representing the ugly cringey part of us we’ve had to mature past - or sadly haven’t. He did this with intelligently worded observations on behavior in with a cool swagger to the language and rapping, so that really brought a voice to being immature and cringey and entitled. And you can’t deny the production prime Drake is rapping on either
Big Sean doesn’t represent s*** lmao but that’s also to his blissful unawareness of the fact that being a ‘rap goat’ comes with fully dedicating your life to representing something bigger than yourself to the potential harm of everything around you. J Cole understood this and bowed out. Big Sean misunderstands this and feels unfairly misjudged. But lmao bucko, make no mistake…
We’ve got Big Sean’s f***ing number. He’s fluff. Not in the deceptively profound Drake way. And that’s okay.
