sabbaronithe PEMDAS debate exists bc it’s purposefully ambiguous. you’re never supposed to actually use the ÷ sign, you’re just supposed to use numerators and denominators
both ways to answer (9 and 1) are correct, but the American way of learning PEMDAS would make 9 correct

proper notation would never have a division sign here bc it gives room for ambiguity
multiplication doesn't come before division here bc not everything you're multiplying is within parentheses, so that multiplication doesn't take precedence
it's just left to right for division & multiplication

I mean in this form as in 6 is the dividend and 2(2+1) would be a divisor and the ÷ which substitutes for the / sign would separate the left hand and right hand elements

6 / (2(1+2)) is implied for the people getting 1.
(6/2) x (1+2) is implied for the people getting 9.
