Watching this next week but hearing this Black Swan and Whiplash on steroids
Definitely don’t go into this expecting that lol
This film doesn’t have the loud set pieces or action that whiplash or there will be blood has (I recall Black Swan having that too but can’t remember). It’s a lot more subtle and nuanced in details. And a lot more slower, drawn out dialogue scenes that might seem pointless if you aren’t paying attention.
Whiplash is a very easy movie to follow and digest: Kid wants to join band, kid gets a shot from teacher, teacher is very mean and pushes him, kid excels, kid fails, kid and teacher fight, kid quits-teacher gets fired, kid and teacher come together for one last performance.

Damn alright but hearing Cate killed it.

Here it’s more psychological. Is it like her character descends into madness?

Not even, more subtle than that

She did. It’s still a very good movie, just don’t think it’s as similar to Whiplash like ppl think.

In a way yeah but it’s not an obvious portrayal of that, if that makes sense
I remember about a month ago seeing people upset because they thought a character in a movie was real and they were upset to find that they weren’t and they couldn’t find out what happened to them on Wikipedia.
Just realized it was this.
are the german parts in this meant to be un-subtitled or have i got a bad link
the only german part you could read in english in the theater was when she was talking to that little girl outside of school

okay yeah thats how it is online too. i always like that
i started to notice in this film it actually will sometimes slowly reveal to you contextually what is being said. the woman came to her door speaking german and lydia shoo'd her away, and then later lydia thinks shes at the door again and says something like 'once again, i dont have your paper...' so you're like 'ohh thats what was being said

I thought she was real until half way through the movie when they kept referencing Covid and I saw it took place in 2022. I was like wtf they made a biopic about someone that quickly and I tried googling her

I also kinda saw it like they were sitting in front of her with her hand raised like she was conducting them and taking her pick at which one she wanted mirroring her predatory ways
