Watched this last night on a whim. Was not prepared for how long and dialogue heavy it is
On a technical level this is such an impressive film and Cate Blanchett is going to give Michelle Yeoh a run for her money at the Oscars
I think I liked it considering how much I keep thinking about it despite how subtle it was. That Julliard scene is incredible too.
Computer, run a fit check

I found a second watch amplifies all the comedy significantly, you may find it less subtle on a rewatch
Glad you mentioned how technically perfect it is. Not a single shot wasted or unnecessary moment in the whole thing, sublime editing, the pacing was flawless, in every category it feels totally seamless
And I love that you can get as much out of it knowing nothing about classical music as you would knowing everything about it
I’m obsessed with all the references they pack into this movie, from the dialogue to the outfits to the framing of certain shots, and how they don’t feel like cheap easter eggs. This is like an Eyes Wide Shut-level “movie for adults with immense depth to be mined for formal/critical/stylistic a***ysis”

there's a couple small inside jokes for people that listen to classical music like during the Julliard scene where she starts playing the piano like Glenn Gould and probably some dialogue during the lunch scenes that went over my head but I agree they do a good job at including u without talking down

Yeah aesthetically and cinematography-wise it's a gorgeous film. Lots of still shots too during dialogue where a more conventional director would go for close-up reaction shots. The more I think about it the intentionality of everything is what really makes this film.
You're not the first person I've seen talk about the comedy aspect. I'll have to go back after I clear these Oscar movies

Watching this tonight
just watched & i cant wait to see it again. every detail felt so deeply considered im just putting together intention & layers havent felt like my brain has had so much to chew on after a movie in a while. that ending shot had me rolling movie of the decade so far for me
couldn't find this thread ln
anyway, good film - feel like i've been thinking about it a lot since in a good way. really expertly teased out, honestly never thought about the length of it. love the overall tension and the occasional tips into full on horror tropes.
what yall think of the theory about everything after the fall being imagined or otherwise not real. I defo think there's something interesting about how she's told she's confused after she pushes the other composer dude over
what is there to indicate that really? movie would be so much worse & boring if that were true
Was surprised why the credit started rolling at the beginning and why its backward too.
i thought about this & i think the point is that it's about foregrounding all the "little people" that prop up the genius/auteur. kind of a knowing self own from the director that'll inevitably get all the credit for the movie, the same way a conductor would for a symphony
Can’t wait for my trillionth rewatch
how many times do u see Krista show up in the movie, I counted four
