COVID is the cause of these comorbidities. You don't walk into the hospital with underlying respiratory failure and then just happen to get covid afterward. Covid is what is CAUSING the respiratory failure, the ARDS, the pneumonia, etc.
If someone comes into the hospital with absolutely no medical history and has covid and ends up taking a turn for the worst, it's because they are developing respiratory failure or something from the covid.

My grandfather was diagnosed with covid. They had to put him into an induced coma. He developed pneumonia too.
If he would’ve died from the pneumonia, would you say he didn’t die from covid?
If covid weakens your immune system enough to where you catch something else and that kills you.... you still died because of covid.
