He changed the entire soundscape of rnb and rappers singing. Weeknd said his sound was Drakes Toronto sound with a twist. Rappers stopped getting singers for their hooks and started doing it themselves. And yeah obv 50 did the hooks before Drake but rappers were still getting singers for hooks until Drake and 50 didnt impact rnb at all.

Think of how Kendrick, Cole and other rappers from the last gen got comfortable using their singing vocals even if they sound horrible

I would say he affected R&B more than rap with that. Ye and Wayne were already crooning and singing on their songs

    Who did drake influence?

almost every rapper nowadays? obviously he wasn't the first rapper to sing, but he is the main reason everybody had started doing this
also he showed that it's ok for rappers to show emotions in songs. I remember times when everybody was saying he is a p**** and too soft. the whole "emo-rap" lane exists cause of him and Cudi.
and I dont even gonna mention how many top tier rappers and singers he helped in the beginning of their careers - from The Weeknd to Fewtch and Migos

Even Wayne wanted Drake for hooks tbh. Kinda crazy when he could get every singer in the world

"And we goin' be alright if we put Drake on every hook"

But yeah Id say hes overall more influential in the way rnb turned out aswell

Sosa influence is definitely worldwide. People in Nigeria, Ghana, even South Korea have their own versions of drill nowadays

This released in 2007, before 808s even dropped

which is why I always say 808's influenced Drake production wise and not singing wise.
Drake was always more rnb and ye was pop.
808's did more for 40 than it did for Drake vocally, was more of an influence sound wise

I think dr Dre should be on here.

His had hands in the biggest rapper ever

One of the biggest ever from the east coast and the entire west coast.

one can arguably say that eazy-e is the most important figure in the history of the genre
