Theyre literally both pop artists that are known for their experimental sound. U sound crazy.

Weeknd is not known for being experimental. He is definitely one of the more "artistic" mainstream artists out there, but he's doing stadium tours. Charli is a couple tiers lower in popularity, and has also been experimenting in her music for a little bit. This isn't to say anything about the records themselves I think they're both great. But for me it felt like weeknd took his sound and let some influences come in from electronic not edm music while charli continued playing in the bubblegum bass arena

After hours had way more expectations. Charli can be more experimental cause she doesn’t sell like The Weeknd and therefore has less constraints.

Even with the constraints weeknd’s album had dope experimental moments. Those moments while fewer in frequency where more experimental when they happened.

Abel made a highly danceable album and opened it up with no drums for almost two minutes and went long stretches without them.

Charli could barely go without drums for more than 30 seconds.

what do expectations gotta do with anything

Abel is a pop star and therefore can’t afford to release super strange music for risk of losing fans. Charli hasn’t charted in America for 6 years. Ofc she can do whatever she wants. Duh. And no one is saying there weren’t dope moments of experimentation on AH. What these artists and their situations are doesn’t change that one project is more experimental than the other - based on their artistry, label situations, and fanbases, this was the only way this was ever gonna turn out

and yeah charli def couldn’t go 20 seconds without drums bro. even tho c2.0 has a section with no drums for a full minute where she just repeats one word and then raps over a baseline and a synth. Yeah. You definitely got me there.

this debate got no legs bruv you gotta move on

Hip hop is electronic music so I never make the distinction unless I really need too.

Weeknd is experimental. He’s not katy perry. He ran to max Martin to learn how to not be so left field and more accessible.

He took rap singing to places it’s never been before and continues to do so.

Charli and weeknd both made amazing autotune dance albums with some great rap singing scattered about.

They also released albums around the same time. If anyone is uncomfortable with them being compared, they’re weirdos and more worried about identity and classification more than the music itself.

you’re just too lazy to read. I already compared that clique track to selah when discussing drums on the album.

You’re delusional to go thru pages of me being quoted and say what I’m saying has no legs. U just big mad. Don’t let that obscure your handle on logic like how you’ve been doing.

Say things firstly because they make sense, not because you think you’re gonna burn somebody. That’s fatherless behavior.

Ehh hip hop is electronic in the same sense that metal is rock for me, they both started there but have evolved to different places.

Like I said he's experimental in the mainstream but overall as an artist? No he's not.

Tbh I don't think weeknd has done anything in rap singing Ye didn't do before, not to mention frank and thug

Sure, but I think its more thats the style (autotuned voice, synthetic production, danceable songs, rapped vocals) thats going to be in the mainstream in the 20s. Charli has been on it for at least 3 years now while weeknd is following that wave. Fundamentally tho they are in different genres/spaces in music.

I don't really have a problem with them being compared but only based on the surface level similarities, because there really aren't any beyond that

  • May 18, 2020

Call me DJ TEKASHIDEMIKS of this thread.

    Y’all understand, y’all just don’t wanna understand

Charli dropped a fast paced auto tune dance record just like weeknd. Why tf you think i like them both so much?

Humble ya selves or stay mad

It’s base level cause u only see base level. How charli on it first when abel been making auto tune dance music from time?

Can’t feel my face came out 5 years ago, so what’s this three years ago business? Niggas gotta tune all the way up for y’all to get the message.

Charli experimentation don’t have the influence that weeknd’s experimentation has.

Niggas out here tryna sound like the weeknd before charli and that’s no knock cause ppl tryna sound like Charli

Y’all swear underground means more experiementation and influence than mainstream and that’s super lazy.

you said something about party4u, not c2.0 - regardless, Kanye rapping about god over a cinematic vocal sample with no drums vs charli rapping about missing her friends over a bubblegum pop baseline w claps ... the only similarity is that there’s no drums. You’re reaching

trust me. I read ya s***. only replying to let you know it has no legs.

albums similar in the fact that they’re experimental for the artists that made them. That’s it b

Clique went without drums for less than 15 seconds. Hi hats and 808s are drums, friend.

Subject matter has nothing to do with my critiques. You bringing it up doesn’t change what I’m saying about structure.

And again, u can’t say it had no legs while you’re responding multiple times.

drums stop at 1:19 on c2.0. Synth line comes in at like 1:30. Not an 808. Not a drum is heard until the clap around 2:05. hold the L

It’s sub bass meant for subwoofers for the same effect as an 808 u litigious dumbass. U wanna be sassy instead of accurate. Stop with the fatherless s***. Without a kick, snare, or bass, the album ceases to be as experimental as AH structurally, u fatherless sob.

    Y’all can’t do s*** from a place of joy, u weak jealous p****.
