I wasn’t talking about LNCL of course that’s a hit . I’m referring to some leaks that could make it on the album

Gotcha. I just been seeing that narrative about LNCL going around for the past few weeks and it’s getting annoying so I wanted to make it clear there is already AT LEAST one hit on this album lol. That song also happens to be the only confirmed song we heard from the album so I still think it’s too early to judge. The leaks do seem more lowkey/less commercial so if your going by that I feel you but if we going by other singles released this year (Life is Good, Toosie, Popstar) it don’t look like the hits are going to slow down anytime soon lol.

I do believe Views - Scorpion Era Drake is peak commercial Drake so I’m expecting TC, NTW, and IYRTITL level succuss with CLB. #1 debut, 2 or 3 top 10 hits. Rest of album debuts in the top 40

Yea having a single like Laugh Now Cry Later definitely meets he is still aiming for hits which is disappointing at this point in his career. Like we already know you can make hits nigga. Can you make an undeniable classic though?

You guys are just pairing a good reception and a hit to music that isn’t original.

That song is original and genius, in the way the melody is so catchy and masks the meaning and sentiment of the song, a champion rising again, vibe.

Just cause it’s a hit, doesn’t make it unoriginal or bad.

Drake has two classics. His type of music even at peak form will never be perceived as a classic by the general consensus off the first listen but will end up aging and growing into one. NWTS and TC are perfect examples and even If You're Reading This.On those albums he had 2-3 hit songs (that strengthen the album imo) and then some very well put album cuts that fit within the album that made them cohesive pieces of work.

I don't think Laugh Now Cry Now Later is original at all. Sounds exactly like what a Drake song would sound like. Tbh it sounds like God's Plan. It's the type of song you already know from Drake.

I meant at this point in his career.Personally, I think he has 5 classics. So Far Gone, Take Care, Nothing Was the Same, If You're Reading This It's Too Late, and Views (Not a rap classic, pop classic). But I am talking about an UNDENIABLE classic at this point in his career.

We already know he is a hit making machine. But can he pull off an album that is just purely gunning for the highest of quality in every song. Laugh Now Cry Later isn't a good start imo. I doubt this song is going to be that memorable or highly regarded in his discography compared to others.

Not the point . It’s about the music . I’m saying it’s gonna be more geared to the actual listening experience

    What does this even mean?

    'listening experience' ?

Great music and hits are not mutually exclusive

Never said it was . Just said the songs I listed is great music .

  • Elliot wilson said it in the interview - they have re-defined what a hit is -

There have been plenty of chart-topping "hit" records from whether it's drake or other artists that have moved the needle or pushed the sound forward.

I don't think in order to move the sound or take risks, it automatically involves listeners not "liking" or "understanding" the music. Sometimes it makes sense sooner rather than later to the audience.

I feel you but I think you being to hard on LNCL. I don’t think Headlines are Started From The Bottom were any better in terms of breaking ground/being original. They just set the tone for the album. It’s like an appetizer before the full course.

LNCL is a quality single. The Boy was in his bag with the melody flow (blending rap and singing) which is something we haven’t heard much of recently. It’s either been full trap Drake, full 90s NY rap drake, full rnb Drake, or full rasta Drake lol. Production is great too especially in comparison to other stuff he’s released lately (did you peep how lush that fade out sounds at the end??? It’s the small things for me bro) CLB can still be Magnum Opus with LNCL as a lead. I wasn’t big on Change Clothes, Runaway, or Swimming Pools and look how those albums turned out.

The delay is good so he can work on it more and potentially make the best album of his career, i don't see a problem with that
