just read another one of his novels like The Road, No Country, or Child of God. Crossing is a sequel to ATPH
Does the crossing have the same characters as ATPH? I thought it was kind of a loose sequel. Already read No Country so might pick up The Road then

Dam I might be wrong then, I just heard it refered to as a trilogy so I didn't question it, but I've enjoyed Outer Dark, No Country, and The Road
Just read the whole article. And the fact that he did peyote during the research/writing of blood meridian makes so much sense.

how is he nihilistic, even his nihilistic book, the road doesn’t have a nihilistic ending

just overall the tone depresses me. i hate reading his boring ass books. i'm just a hater though, ignore me

The Crossing is about a different kid and then he and Cole from All the Pretty Horses both appear in Cities of the Plain.
I’ve only read All the Pretty Horses, though, as far as the Border Trilogy. I’m intrigued by The Crossing (I only recently learned how beloved it is, having always believed Suttree to be the people’s champ as far as McCarthy novels) but it definitely sounds sadder and more f***ed up than All the Pretty Horses.
I'm not defending him in any way, but have you looked into the connections between the Judge and Gnostic ideas. The ties between the two throughout the book are fascinating. He leaned on those to write the Judge.
There’s a follow-up interview with the guy who wrote the Vanity Fair article where he claims that “according to Augusta, McCarthy had zero interest in Gnosticism, or Foucault.” I’ve never studied Gnosticism, does the Judge seem too rooted in those concepts for this to be true?
Hoping this Blood Meridian movie stays in development hell. Love the book, don’t know that any of the horrible s*** that happens in it necessarily needs to be committed to film.

I mean that may be true, but the academic articles I’ve read make a good case like he took some inspo from Gnostic tenets.
some of these Blood Meridian ending theories hittin different now
You think the Judge was never real and the Kid/Man was the one murdering children the whole book now?

No way there are people that indulge in this theory

There are, and they can be pretty indignant about it.

nah Judge Holden is definitely real but I don’t think that means he was literally physically present in every scene, especially if you’re coming from the perspective of the Judge being a metaphor for the violence in the kid/men. I think there’s a decent case for interpreting the kid as the little girl’s killer at the end

Naah didn't mccarthy himself confirm dis in the notes of blood meridian with some passages being really, really similar, almost 1:1, to sum foucalt writings?
Also worth noting he first met her by a motel pool and ah
https://twitter.com/metaplexmovies/status/1859310756178821320There’s a scene in prison break like this too but way more creepy where one of the main antagonists tries to f*** a young Demi lovato

I’ve never seen any of the notes for Blood Meridian! Are they online somewhere or did you have to go to an exhibition or something? McCarthy scholars seem skeptical of some of the finer details of this article anyway.

You have any suggestions for where I can read/learn more about Gnosticism?
