I don’t think its bad to try new things I just think its bad when u do it because its trendy and not bc ur passionate about it
Thats a whole nother thread for the Life section, Ima post it
Im tired of mfers saying "Its for the bag" there is no more integrity
Mfers will suck d*** for "a bag"
Mfers will sell crack to their neighbor "for a bag"
Mfers will drop a song saying "I LIKE IT IN THE BUTT!" "for a bag"
Its a wack mentality
Whats wrong with sucking d*** for a bag? especially in this time of year?
Back in the day you wouldnt get Nirvana trying to do a pop punk song like Green Day, or Sublime trying to do a grunge song like Pearl Jam..
You wouldn't hear Nas trying to hop on a west coast G-Funk beat like Dre.. (and when he did work with Dre on The Firm it was a collab project), or hear Outkast trying to rap on gritty NY boom bap beat like Mobb Deep
So why da hell artists today be so quick to hop on waves, like Trippie, YB, and DaBaby hopping on the rage beats, or Bad Bunny from making latin trap and reggaeton to hopping on the Mexican country beats? (and 90% of modern artists)
Do they not hear how trash they sound on those type of beats? They're degrading the quality of music
Im sure Nas and Nirvana recorded some s*** for fun in the studio, the difference is they wouldn't PUT IT OUT cause they were self aware enough to know "Hey my voice is not meant to be singing/rapping this way over this kind of instrumentation"
An example of an artist being self aware that he DOES sound good over another sound is BIGGIE on Going Back to Cali: his voice DOES work over that beat and go hard af, so he finna drop it as a one off to show mfers "Im really him"
(Then ofc Drake is just a cheat code, he's the ultimate trend rider and wave stealer, and his voice works with almost any flow or sound 95% of the time)
I don’t know bruh. I make music from time to time for fun, and I’m inspired by different genres. I can imagine it’s the same for them. I’m sure some do it to solely try and get a hit, but some do it because they like the new sound. Some songs work out, some don’t.
Not making music in only one subgenre = lack of self awareness
Fr, let artist have creative freedom. I would rather see more Lil Yatchys taking creative risks and making more Let's Star Heres then seeing them do the same thing over and over again
This, the pseudo-leftists on here are so cringe w that s***.
What's a "pseudo-leftist" ?
you just THINK they don’t have self awareness … probably cause you can’t imagine someone can be cool, charismatic, etc. without being an airhead
Nah bruh Im just objective.. Drake's voice is the reason he has been able to sustain this longevity
He is able to seamlessly steal any artists flow or sound and make it sound natural
Its his god given secret weapon, its just what it is
When you really look into the science of hip-hop (music in general) every single artist is inspired by someone before them and you can hear that influence easily if you have a deep catalogue of music in ur noggin or phone
its nearly impossible to know what ppl will like so they probably just do whatever they want for unknown reasons

not true for every artist

Nigga folks got bills to pay. Anything you do should be for a bag.
its nearly impossible to know what ppl will like so they probably just do whatever they want for unknown reasons
but that's exactly what every artist should do. They should just do whatever they feel like and trust in their good taste.
Listen: Im a fan of capitalism. I LOVE money. I LOVE having nice things.
But that doesn't mean Ima take a "bag" and buy a bugatti over securing a roof over my familys head
That doesn't mean Ima disregard any ideas I place value on for "a bag"
The problem here imo lies within modern day artists having no real respect or love for music: hence it is easy for them to not care about the art form, and what they're doing for "the bag"
My point with all this is: you can still love money and nice things, and have integrity and honor in your choices. I blame the people, not the system. People need more honor and self control
I think today's artists, including rap artists, do have respect for music. I don't think they have any special respect for rap in particular, or genre more generally.
Technology has decentralized everything to the point where being a purist distances musicians from the zeitgeist rather than setting them apart in a positive way. Regional scenes aren't what they were. Everything is changing quickly and nobody wants to get left behind.
Tyler the creator always says some corny bitter s*** on interviews. Dude always talks down on someone or something in every interview

That’s a brokie mentality
You gotta figure it out and not be at the point where you have to “get the bag”
Trust me, the long term effects this will have on our society will be detrimental
And I’m all about the continuation of our species, about our grandkids grandkids grandkids
That’s the problem, folks just living to bust a nut and get dopamine rushes, they’re too simple minded

Idk man, more evidence leads me to believe they’re not doing it for the love of the music. They’re doing it cause it’s “the way out the hood” especially in rap music.
Just look at interviews when they be asking artists to talk about their music. They don’t even know any artists before them, what inspires them, there is no passion behind what they’re talking about lol
