Idk man, more evidence leads me to believe they’re not doing it for the love of the music. They’re doing it cause it’s “the way out the hood” especially in rap music.
Just look at interviews when they be asking artists to talk about their music. They don’t even know any artists before them, what inspires them, there is no passion behind what they’re talking about lol
I think that's true sometimes, but I also think we're spoiled being in this message board culture too. We some nerds for the most part and way into this music s***, more so than I think a lot of musicians are

That don’t make sense to me, because I’m an artist, I just started a band with a couple friends too. They, like I, are big music nerds.
I’ve worked in a lot of studios and with a lot of local artists: every single one of them (that does music for real) is a music nerd lol, it’s almost a necessity to be a good artist
I can tell right away who the ones clout chasing are, cause a year later they not doing music no more
What's a "pseudo-leftist" ?
There’s people on here that rebranded as leftists or hopped on the wave that don’t really live their raps.
I have legit seen a communist Nigga on here use the “black on black crime” talking point.
A lot of Niggas on here say some wild s*** but cuz they use the phrases “capitalism” and all that s*** they get a pass
Back in the day you wouldnt get Nirvana trying to do a pop punk song like Green Day, or Sublime trying to do a grunge song like Pearl Jam..
You wouldn't hear Nas trying to hop on a west coast G-Funk beat like Dre.. (and when he did work with Dre on The Firm it was a collab project), or hear Outkast trying to rap on gritty NY boom bap beat like Mobb Deep
So why da hell artists today be so quick to hop on waves, like Trippie, YB, and DaBaby hopping on the rage beats, or Bad Bunny from making latin trap and reggaeton to hopping on the Mexican country beats? (and 90% of modern artists)
Do they not hear how trash they sound on those type of beats? They're degrading the quality of music
Im sure Nas and Nirvana recorded some s*** for fun in the studio, the difference is they wouldn't PUT IT OUT cause they were self aware enough to know "Hey my voice is not meant to be singing/rapping this way over this kind of instrumentation"
An example of an artist being self aware that he DOES sound good over another sound is BIGGIE on Going Back to Cali: his voice DOES work over that beat and go hard af, so he finna drop it as a one off to show mfers "Im really him"
(Then ofc Drake is just a cheat code, he's the ultimate trend rider and wave stealer, and his voice works with almost any flow or sound 95% of the time)
A big reason a lot of them 90s rappers didn’t do those type beats is cuz back in the day regional differences in hip hop were more of a thing before the internet blended all this s*** together too, gotta acknowledge that.
And even then Outkast would do collabs with dudes like Raekwon and Nas Is Coming off It Was Written is Nas over a G Funk style beat
Artists aren’t self aware because I don’t like how some of them sound when doing certain styles

Oh I know, I been doing my own s*** since I was 14, I got studio time booked for the next couple months. I've been a music nerd since I was a little kid and I'm about that s*** in my daily life.
A lot of pure songwriters are like that, the ones who are behind the scenes cooking up these songs and know the science behind what sounds good. Performers not necessarily. Music taste is a strange thing, I've met a lot of brilliant people, creative people, who have really basic taste or don't listen like that.
Anyway, there are definitely frauds in the industry, but for example I don't think Yachty lacks respect for music because he switched lanes. He clearly loves music, but there's a lot of baggage for him in rap.
If you branch out it’s “stay in your lane”
If you don’t it’s “all the songs sound the same”
Can’t win
That’s a brokie mentality
You gotta figure it out and not be at the point where you have to “get the bag”
Trust me, the long term effects this will have on our society will be detrimental
And I’m all about the continuation of our species, about our grandkids grandkids grandkids
That’s the problem, folks just living to bust a nut and get dopamine rushes, they’re too simple minded
“That’s a brokie mentality”
That just let me know you’re privileged asf lol

You end your post with the reason why niggas do that now lol
Drake was really the first artist that treated genres like video game trophies. Not a bad thing if niggas are decent at it
One of my favorite Uzi songs is Paradise from that first tape he blew up with which was him tryna do a white people pop song after a tape full of trap s*** and it’s fire
This whole thread is funny
“You wouldn't hear Nas trying to hop on a west coast G-Funk beat like Dre” but you would hear biggie w/ big poppa
if the beatles didn’t go to india their music would’ve aged like dog s***
it’s the curse of the pop star
This is by far the stupidest thread I've seen on this site in a while, and I know it is because op isn't trolling.
1. You don't know what self-awareness is
2. Illmatic being released broke the stigma of only working with one homegrown producer
New York rapper hops on west coast g-funk beat and it becomes a commercial hit
and it's funny cause even on the rock pendulum your argument still fails because Nirvana were influenced pop punk and it showed on songs here
Green Day and other predominantly indie/alt bands like Sonic Youth and Weezer were influenced by grunge for a certain time. Read or listen to music before you lie through your teeth
or Sublime trying to do a grunge song like Pearl Jam..
sublime is probably one of the worst examples you couldve used lol they would literally try any style
they were doing NWA covers lmao
They were the ultimate trendhoppers. they bit hip hop, punk, reggae, dub, dancehall, trip hop .. you name it

Hard days night is the beatles best though

I agree, the thread is about self awareness
Uzi and Juice WRLD both got that white voice that goes well with pop and pop punk. If it sounds good, it sounds good
It’s part of the reason they got so big in the first place, but that’s a whole other thread
I’m saying some artists don’t got self awareness and they are so obviously chasing a bag or clout, and it just has negative effects to music quality in the long run
