We're honestly f***ed here in NYC. Our local government is an absolute joke, and the only thing keeping it together is the fact that Cuomo is doing a decent job. Nothing will ever fix the fact that not only did we start prepping a month and a half late, but authorities here actively ignored and acted contrarian to the situation in the beginning. The only reason the city hasn't collapsed is because we happen to have decent resources like hospitals thanks to the population density & federal/state assistance. But now those are overflowing too, and it's going to continue overflowing because people are being selfish and stupid. I can't imagine this going on for another 3 months. We're going to have to literally call on martial law here.

I don't think the public is capable otherwise because we've perpetuated a selfish, cut-throat culture for the past few decades where no one wants to sacrifice anything at the lowest individual level, and at the highest governmental level, we have insane corruption and incompetence. the WHO: straight up lying in the beginning about human transmission, also refusing information from Taiwan
the Media: downplaying the virus and spreading literal misinformation
the US Federal Government: claiming to have had information in advance on coronavirus severity and not doing s*** with it or disseminating information to officials + congress using this an excuse to cover the asses of big businesses and focus on the economy instead of literal wellbeing
individual state Governments: not just not doing anything, but being contrarian about the severity early on, including encouraging large gatherings
european governments: basically a mix of the same s*** fed/state govs did in the US
various individuals: being incredibly selfish and stubborn and being the reason this virus will continue to ravage us

I don’t understand where people are going, besides getting food and other necessities. Every other place is closed. Are we not supposed to go to Starbucks or other restaurants? I just don’t get how people are not practicing social distancing if everything is closed.

Here the few restaurants open don't have a drive thru and it's take out only. Every restaurant with a drive thru has locked its doors. No store is open. Can't do any kind of shopping at all unless it's for groceries or meds.
