Sort of. We're still not sure why the clotting happens, but it likely has to do with an out of control immune response called a cytokine storm where cells essentially kill themselves to prevent a virus from taking over. These don't happen overnight, but are very common in ICU patients. Cytokines regulate blood coagulation and when they go haywire, you start to see clotting happen, even in the toes.

What doctors are trying to figure out is why blood clotting is so bad in these particular ICU patients, what the exact mechanism is. The reality is that this may not be a true respiratory virus at all, only a virus that starts in the respiratory system. It's no coincidence that people with diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure are more at risk than asthmatics.

The key point is that we're mostly seeing these clotting problems in patients who are near or at critical condition, which account for roughly 5% of all cases. And that's out of just the known cases. It's very possible that the number of people dying from COVID-19 strokes make up a fraction of a percent. But because deaths only happen to a small number by infection rate, knowing about the clotting and preparing for it can save a ton of lives.

AIDS, scarlet fever, polio, all of them were damn near a death sentence at one time, but science either softened the blow or turned them into a peripheral concern. We will do the same to COVID-19. This virus was unknown to the scientific community 4 months ago and now we know how it spreads, what the disease pattern looks like, mapped its genome and have countless treatment and vaccine candidates waiting in the chamber. 6 months from now, when flu season starts back up, we're going to have some serious ammunition on our side.

But the sad reality is that a lot of innocent people with families who love them will be lost on the journey to a treatment and vaccine. Please do your part to help the situation, cover your face in public, wash your hands after going out and give yourself better odds.

To this day I dont know if what I had a few weeks back was a simple cold or this coronavirus. My breathing was all out of wack, very heavy to the point where I had to open my window and lean out periodically and I lost the ability to taste food for a good 14 days. Ive had lots of regular colds, this one felt like a notch above those. This was probably the milder symptoms and im glad I made it.

30-40 is a relatively young age, especially when you compare the frequency of severe strokes usually happen in much older age groups.

I was making a point about how crazy this is, and if you have family members or yourself that have been in contact with Covid to be careful.

Yall blowing the stroke thing out of control. It's not that common for people our age. This s*** is hitting people 40 and above the worst. There's just unlucky people who are younger that have had been critically affected by it, but not as much as yall think it has. It's okay to be cautious and still not want it, but stop fear jerking as well as being too care free

Clearing our testing backlog in Cali wrecked our superficial "progress" by blowing up daily case totals, but we've also jumped from 46th in testing per million to 29th in ONE WEEK. That's great news as being top of the line in testing is one of our milestones for reopening.
