"Worse" as in "more aggressive?" Sure, but that certainly didn't help ebola, SARS and MERS become endemic. And its aggressiveness won't be what keeps SARS-CoV-2 around for the long haul.

"Worse" as in "killed more people?" The Spanish flu killed 1.5-3% of the entire human population. Roughly 50 million people. COVID-19 is about .006% of the way to 50 million, forget 1.5-3% of 7 billion.

It's crazy how Italy dropped from #2 to #5 in just a few weeks. I remember how frustrated their media was getting about the lockdown that last week of March, but it really worked.

The people in Italy mostly stayed at home, which is why they deserve their easing now.

Just look at Spain, they have been in lockdown for as long as Italy and still have over 3000 new cases in some days. That's because people go out in Madrid and Barcelona despite the lockdown.

What we're doing is barely different from what Sweden is doing, if we're being real. We're not letting non essential employees crowd into office buildings, which is logical, but a lot of people are still doing whatever they feel like.

If you take out New York, which of course had to act very strictly, that's true.

It is particularly difficult for New York to be able to easing the lockdown somewhere in normal pieces because it is so densely populated. So I ask myself the question: is it even possible to keep the number permanently low as possible? If only one person has it and walks outside around, this s*** is starting again.
