It doesn't attack the lining of the lungs if it doesn't get to your lungs. The majority of mild cases never reach that point and remain in upper respiratory tract. These are the cases that seem like a bad cold. Asymptomatic cases are blocked by the body's T cells so inflammation never takes place.

When the body cannot get control of the virus before it proceeds down the upper respiratory tract, it reaches the lungs and can cause long term damage. We don't know how long because the pandemic is only a few months along at this point.

Believe it or not, about half of all seasonal flu infections are asymptomatic. The more strains you've been exposed to, the better chance your body has of fighting it off without making you suffer symptoms. Your immune system is a lot more active than you realize.

I gotcha, that actually makes complete sense

I dont get one thing. Why are people focused in the number if cases? It either started in North America in January and spread fast or it has been here even since December simce majority are asymptomatic. The number of cases depends on how many people you test as well.

People should focus on deaths. That's the number we need down. In Ontario for example if you look at deaths with age you see that under 50 like 27 people have died since January. Less than 100 people dead under 70 years old from covid or had covid when they died. This isnt even data with context. The government doesnt provide much. Idk if the total deaths are directly from covid only or includes people who had it and happened to just die as well.

So yea this has been here for a while.

It doesn’t matter how many deaths. The point was to stop the spread of the virus. That’s it.

People in this country are so entitled and ignorant.

Big jump in severe cases today because India is reporting a huge backlog from the beginning of the pandemic there; it's a stat they've never reported until now.

Regardless, I would expect the general trend of severe cases staying flat or declining to continue after today's spike.

  • May 24, 2020

This is just 1000 deaths. 1%

I can't read the article, so I'm not sure how they're framing the information, but with US deaths on a massive decline over the past month, it seems productive to discuss those 100000 deaths in terms of how we can improve going forward not only in this pandemic, but in our response to future ones. Seeing as it's NYT, they probably aren't doing that and are spinning the pandemic as an unstoppable force with no solution despite the data.

And like, yeah, f*** Trump, nobody should let him off the hook for his inconsistency of message and utter incompetence, but it would also be great if NYT, WaPo, LA Times, CNN, etc actually gave a balanced or realistic perspective on what's actually going on.

I wouldn't know that there were vaccines going into phase 3 trials, that 100,000 new recoveries were reported yesterday, that active US cases have plateaued over the past several days, or that US daily deaths have dropped by over 35% in a matter of weeks unless I looked this s*** up for myself.

  • May 24, 2020

Massive backlogs from recovered cases were reported in the US since two days. I'm happy that they FINALLY reporting it. I'm also happy that our country is reporting recovered cases in a good way and accurate. You can't say this about Mexico and Brazil.

Our active cases in general will go down once New York is starting to publish their recovered patients.

It annoys me that our new numbers are now on one level every day with fluctuations. The ignorance of our country makes it extremely difficult to bring the new cases down even further. We are fighting with hell at this point. Who the hell knows what's going to happen in three weeks.

It's also not a good idea to reopen the churches. You can see what happened in Germany because of this. F*** Trump.
