I think more care should be put into Long covid effects, vaers and various strains. Not fear monger level on either side just to know what we should expect

There is data out on how many lives have been saved by COVID vaccines:

    thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(22)00320-6/fulltext

Using our model fit to predicted and reported excess mortality, we estimated that 31.4 million deaths due to COVID-19 would have occurred without vaccinations during the first year of COVID-19 vaccination (2021), with 19.8 million deaths averted by vaccination.

The estimated number of deaths averted per vaccine administered was notably higher in high-income countries and upper-middle-income countries, in part due to greater access to the more efficacious mRNA vaccines.

In the United States alone, COVID-19 vaccines prevented 18.5 million additional hospitalizations and 3.2 million additional deaths from 2020 to 2022. That's around 3,000 lives saved every day. I just wanted to share this because I feel like people are taking it for granted that the number of deaths and infected people went down. It took hard work and medical science to get there.

RIP Li Wenliang. The Chinese ophtamologist at Central Hospital Wuhan who was the first to treat patients with a strange pneumonia and suspected that it was SARS. He was met with resistance by authorities but later was posthumously awarded the May Fourth Medal by the government. He died from COVID that he contracted while treating his patients. If it wasn't for heroes like him speaking up, this pandemic would have been so much worse. There are so many healthcare workers we have lost and I have no words for what they sacrificed so we could survive this.

I'm sad that this got unstickied, but I'm also thankful that it got stickied in the first place. We are a big community, and all the information that was shared here might have saved some users' or lurkers' lives.

Get vaccinated if you haven't already and encourage people around you to do the same. The data shows that the updated boosters protect against the newer variants. The dose is only 30ul which is the volume of a raindrop and yet that tiny drop is enough to save someone's life.

I will be forever thankful for all the healthcare workers, organizers, scientists, and policymakers who are at the forefront of this battle and sacrificed so much so we can return to some normalcy.

Only people who prevented normalcy were the stupid sheep who insisted everyone wear mask everywhere they go and shut down small family businesses to get their moral righteousness hit

My loudly and proudly unvaccinated friend died today from complications of COVID. We’ve well and truly lost this war and we’ve f***ed a generation’s worth of medical advancement by failing to communicate the nuances of vaccines and allowing anti-vax sentiment to fester. I f***ing hate what we’ve become.

Phase 3 data for Novavax NVX-CoV2373 looks good

    Link: fda.gov/media/164812/download
    nature.com/articles/s41598-023-27698-x

    • 2 doses of Novavax are equivalent to 3 mRNA doses
    • 3 doses of Novavax are equivalent to 4 doses of mRNA or 3 mRNA + bivalent doses
    • Novavax protects against new BQ.1.1 and XBB.1 variants

My personal opinion is, Novavax did a much better job at explaining and comparing their vaccine to the variants out there than the wordy, vague data Moderna and Pfizer have put out. It takes a minute to understand everything but it's answering the most relevant questions. Novavax protects against the current strains and emerging Omicron variants for now just like the other mRNA vaccines so it can be used as a booster if you haven't boosted yet.

But, this is data according to Novavax Inc and it's assuming antibody titers are indicative of vaccine efficacy which is valid for short-term protection. Neutralizing titers have been the metric BioNTech, Moderna, FDA and CDC have been using to make their arguments but I think antibody titers as a metric for efficacy is debatable for the long-term... I'm more club NIH and I think memory CD4+ and CD8+ T cell and memory B cell responses would be a more interesting metric to study, but nobody in the government seems to care about long-term effectiveness of anything. People want one vaccine to protect them for good so we should be looking at what memory B/T cells are doing after 6+ months, but I'm just ranting rn. IN MY OPINION, if you are healthy and believe it's safe for you to get vaccinated, 3 doses of whatever vaccine is available to you is the new minimum to be relatively safe and only have mild or no symptoms if you do catch COVID.

    Welp..

Yeah that's how vaccines work. The whole point of a vaccine is to get exposed to characteristics of the virus, but you know, without the downsides of long covid, or dying.

But, I mean it's up to you to decide if you want to gamble your life and have your lungs look like this:

Or take a vaccine that is the volume of a raindrop and go on with your life.
